New Hampshire residents cannot be required to get a COVID-19 vaccine in order to "access any public facility, any public benefit, or any public service" according to a new bill signed into law by Republican Gov. Chris Sununu.
So, am I reading this wrong?
""As he has long said, Governor Sununu believes that private entities have the choice to require vaccinations," Brandon Pratt, the governor's deputy communications director, told ABC News in a statement. "

Yes, that is how I read it - public as in owned by the public. This would not place any restrictions on private businesses. Although us certainly sends a message to them.
I honestly never thought I would see a day in the U.S. where such a basic freedom that would forbid a non-contagious person from being forced to undergo a medical procedure before someone would be permitted to buy groceries would actually need to be put into law!
However, I disagree with the exception to county nursing homes and medical facilities operated by the state. Although I agree that it is important to protect both patients and staff, I think that as long as visitors are limited to a 30-minute visit and wear protective gear (whether that means masks or something even more protective), that would be good enough and a good compromise.

Yes, we should have that clarified, as it could mean either businesses open to the public OR businesses run by the government.
As I have often stated, I believe in private business being able to choose who they serve UNLESS the business involves providing a basic service to the public -- and that includes groceries, restaurants, gas stations, hospitals, etc.

Some people may feel that the need for a new pair of shoes is basic if theirs are falling apart.
If its not, then stores like Walmart should have had whole sections of their stores closed off.

Sununu is not that stupid - it would cost the state too much money. Every liquor store in NH is run by the state and they get a lot of people coming in from Massachusetts and Maine, plus the summer tourists (no sales tax after all. Even my sister from NY brings about 6 cases of wine back with her after she visits the state.
As for the policy itself, I think it's great but NH is, after all, the "Live free or Die" state.
Any such law should encompass private companies...well they really aren't, but we will call them that for the sake of discussion.
So, it’s not government overreach to dictate what a small business owner can and can’t do? You guys are so inconsistent.
