Goldmine' asteroid in our solar system is full of metals worth 'quadrillions'

A 124 mile-wide space rock is in our solar system and scientists believe it could be worth more than $10,000 quadrillion (£8,072 quadrillion), and NASA is planning to visit it by 2026

If there is a way of stopping it and claiming it. I say we should do it.

Cost of freight would be enormous. Not worth it....until space travel becomes as common as driving a car.

It would not be worth that much be cause the supply would crash the price.

It might be worth that much in today's dollars, but not after you shock the market with that much new supply. Of course, I think the cost of space mining would limit the amount they actually bring back.

It kind of reminds me of how Venezuela has some of the largest reserves of oil, yet the country is poor as dirt these days. Yea, they have all that oil... In the ground, where it's not making anyone any richer or better off.

Good Lord -- how ridiculous! The world doesn't have $10 quintillion dollars to spend on it, although of course the influx of that much gold would drop the price of gold below a penny an ounce.

Exactly. DeBeers maintains the value of diamonds by preventing an oversupply in the market.

All the more reason this should happen. But yeah, it's a pipe dream.
