The couple was fully vaccinated but had to quarantine anyway. The woman went into labor early. After the baby was born it was taken to NICU and she was taken to the Covid wing - she who did not have Covid and was fully vaccinated. The fully vaccinated couple was not allowed to see their newborn baby until the quarantine was over... despite multiple negative Covid tests and being fully vaccinated. They appealed and were turned down. They only got to see their child after the mandatory quarantine was over.
Quote:
A Melbourne couple has finally been permitted to meet their newborn son, eight days after he was born during a hotel quarantine stint in Brisbane.

Sarah Soliman and her husband Moe Haider, originally from Epping, arrived in Brisbane from Doha on May 26, thinking they would be out well in time for their son's birth.

However, an unforeseen complication meant Ms Soliman was rushed to Royal Brisbane Women and Children's Hospital to undergo an emergency C-section 10 weeks early, on June 1 – while she was still under quarantine.
You might think, ‘gosh, someone misunderstood’. You might think that is not only cruel but just ridiculous, and it doesn’t even jibe with the science. Nope.
Quote:
Chief Health Officer Jeanette Young acknowledged the situation was "heartbreaking for everyone involved".

"Just because you're vaccinated doesn't mean you won't get infected," Dr Young said. "That's why we could not let that family go and visit their baby."
Don’t go to Australia if you are over 20 weeks pregnant.

I don't think Australians like Americans very much. So yeah, for the meantime, just don't go.

All Australia is doing with these extreme measures is dragging out the pandemic and making it take longer to reach endemic levels of infection instead.

I know it seems trivial but not allowing a mother to hold her baby the first 8 days of it's life could cause irreversible psychological damage to that infant while covid would do absolutely nothing to it. What a stupid policy. Completely ignores the "science." It probably wouldn't matter that much as they mostly sleep at that age. Eh Whatever.

There are plenty of examples of heartless acts by this women in Queensland. It defies belief. But unfortunately that State Government was recently re-elected with an increased majority.

The good news is the vaccination program is now progressing well (despite the efforts of the Chief Health Officer in this article who increased vaccine hesitancy by scaring people about the AZ shot) and should be at 70% full coverage in 2-3 months. and 80% by the end of the year. The silly lockdowns and nonsense rules will go by the wayside soon enough.

It could be worse. We could be New Zealand where they have just entered a 7 day National lockdown - yes, the Whole Country! Because of one single case in the whole country. And their vaccine rollout is going very poorly.

You can't come even if you did want to. And we can't leave!

You are wrong about the likes of Australians though.

Not really, USA and UK are clear exhibits of this with Delta. And Australia will reach a higher vaccination rate than the US relatively soon.
