Do we have a Defense agreement with Taiwan then Yes because we should honor our obligations but otherwise Hell No. The whole mess in the middle East could have arguably been started by our attack on Iraq because they invaded Kuwait. But it is my understanding at the time we had no type of Defense Treaties with Kuwait. We should always make it clear if you are our ally and someone attacks we will help you, otherwise sorry.
If China invades, we have no choice but to engage them.
We should simply provide Taiwan with nukes and let them take care of themselves.
As long as they are well armed with nukes, they will be safe.
Otherwise, the Chinese would accept massive casualties in a conventional war. The US would not tolerate such casualties, particularly to simply help a foreign government when the US is not directly involved.

How many military lives were lost during Trump as President? How many military fiascos happened under Trump? Did Trump ignored any advice concerning Afghanistan? Biden was supposed to be the one with “experience”, and not only ignored his military advisers, but lied that he didn’t. Every veteran I know who fought in Afghanistan or any war said the military is always the last to leave, never leave civilians behind. They are very livid with Biden.
Lets not forget our dump and run in Syria where we handed influence over to Putin and let our allies the Kurds to be slaughtered..... But the topic is a what if on Taiwan.
With the Doha agreement signed in March of last year why were Americans not in support of the US Government still in country over a year later? What about the Cuban missile crisis?... history is important. Taiwan abandoned it's nuke program at our request back in the 70's.

Ignoring an invasion of Taiwan will only make the eventual war with China bloodier and less certain as to outcome. It's helpful to learn from history. Ignoring Hitler when he was invading countries around him didn't make him go away in the 1930's. it made the war longer and more difficult. Ignoring Imperial Japan when they were running around the Pacific in the 1930's (including invading China) did not make them go away. It made the war with them more difficult.
I assume the reason that China hasn't taken action in the past is the threat that the US promises with Taiwan to come to their aid has stopped them from taking action...
However with the current administration in power I wouldn't be surprised they would renege on that promise.
Nothing in the Constitution says to protect Taiwans borders. Granted if China was a weak country with little military and there was oil in Taiwan, we'd go in no doubt.
Presumably, it won’t be just the US dealing with China if this happens. Australia and the UK just pretty much committed to curbing Chinese aggression as well.
