Between Trump's recent endorsement and Amanda Chase's traitor rally I think McAuliffe is gonna pull in any of the undecideds remaining and win this.

Dems hold a narow lead over Pubsin th VA statehouse. Is that up for grabs too in 2022?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virginia_General_Assembly

If Youngkin wins, AND the Pubs retake the statehouse, then you could see a 180 in VA politics in short order.

Otherwise, no matter which rich white guy wins, it won't matter much. Governor + State House control = real change

I won't post the whole list; you can see it here: https://wallethub.com/edu/e/states-w...t-schools/5335

At the bottom of the article they describe their methodolgy.

Virginia has fantastic public schools and has had them for quite some time. They are not declining either.

I know parents in 4 of those 5 states are not happy with what the public school system is pushing on kids the past 3 years.

As of 2021, 15 states have already passed a Convention of States resolution.

https://ohiohouse.gov/members/riorda...resolution-722

34 states are needed, so 19 more states are needed...a longshot for sure.

But wait! In 2021, according to COSA, 25 MORE states are considering passing a resolution!

If 19 of these 25 states decide to pass their resolutions, we will then have 34, & a convention of states is on.

Virginia is needed, and if Younkin wins, that would help.

The Federal gov't has grown in size & power never intended by the founders, & the states are , or 25 wouldn't be considering it this year, & 15 wouldn't have already passed it.

This is not a purely Democrat vs, Republican issue. It's the States versus Federal Government overreach.

If inflation isn't controlled, & the Dollar begins to collapse, the Convention of States will happen.

If the Brandon Aministration, Pelosi, & Shumer rams Trillions of new spending down the throats of moderate Dems, even Blue states could sign on to a Convention of States....like VA.

If the GOP takes the statehouse who is going to keep Amanda Chase in line....

Thanks for this ^^^^

I've seen the decline up close and personal. The elementary school our daughter attended was a good school when she was there. Long after she finished HS, her elementary school had gotten so bad that it couldn't get accreditation.

To make a blanket statement basically saying all VA schools are great is disingenuous.

Yes schools can change over time for a number of reason but if you look at the links I posted in #89 Virginia is in the top 5 for all areas except the 1 example that your referencing. To make a blanket statement that our schools are in decline is just as "disingenuous".

How can VA be in the top 5 when their NAEP 8th grade Reading results lists only 33% of VA students at the proficient or advanced levels in Reading, the same as the US as a whole? What use is being in the top 5 if that's just the same as our nationwide mediocrity (or slightly below)?

You provided the reference source and the posted results are from the same site, Virginia is in the top 5 for Math, Science and 4th grade reading. Yes reading is down slightly but if you spend time with 8th graders you would see the trends in reading, writing and communicating in general. They live on their phones and social media, and even reading is done more online than in the printed word.

Why is not being in the top 5 a reason to throw any other high scores out? 13 performed slightly higher in 8th grade reading, 27 are similar and 11 performed lower maybe what I said about Cell Phones applies nation wide...
