Rahm was a good Mayor. LL is terrible and Daley was in 2 terms too long.

Rahm wasn’t perfect, but financially, he brought tons of private investment to downtown. He transformed the downtown core into a wealthily, well-developed area, with tons of companies and wealthy people moving in. Also, likely because of this, downtown was always very safe and very clean. Violence and crime downtown was almost unheard of.

Since Lightfoot has been mayor, for the first time I’m aware of, downtown no longer feels as pristine as it had for decades. Lots more violent crime, wild packs of teams, and just a more seedy feel. It was never like this under Rahm.

So compared to Lightfoot, I will say that Rahm was a great mayor.

Daiey got that ball rolling back in the 90s. The process had already rounded third and was headed toward home by the time Rahm took office. But yeah, Rahm and especially Daley understood the importance of a motivated police force and always had their back, sometimes to a fault (see: Rahm burying the Laquon McDonald tape for as long as he could).

Unfortunately Daley also severely mismanaged the city's finances and he's largely responsible for the massive pension funding shortfall the city is dealing with today.

What a ridiculous link !

The city/ state does not have the strictest gun laws in the US.

Chicago has not defunded its Police.

The mayor strongly opposes defunding the Police.

The mayor strongly opposes bail reform.

Funding for Police was increased this year.

Some high- end stores on Michigan Ave have experienced instances of “ smash & grabs”.

One would think a retailer would consider moving high end shoes and bags to the second floor, away from windows and doors. $950 pair of shoes and/ or a $2500 bag are not impulse purchases.

Retail stores are responsible for in- store security and cameras. Thieves know which stores have security.

Most stores have policies to avoid confronting shoplifters.

Police everywhere increasingly rely on video evidence. Without video, the opportunity for conviction diminishes.

Police arrest and when available, collect evidence. . The county/ state are responsible for bail, prosecution, conviction and sentencing.

Over the past 30 years, the city has paid out $ billions to settle or satisfy jury awards related to excessive force and wrongful death claims.

No, it's not the Babylon Bee or the Onion, LOL!!!!!!

".......Mayor Lori Lightfoot said some retailers are not doing their part to protect their own stores.

"I'm disappointed that they're not doing more to take safety and make it a priority," she said. "For example, we still have retailers that won't institute measures like having security officers in their stores, making sure that they've got cameras that are actually operational......."

LE has no responsibility for in store security. That’s on retailers.

It’s bizarre for retailers anywhere, to position high end merchandise near windows/ doors.

Without video evidence, the likelihood of a county conviction diminishes.

It is common for retailers to not show in court and the case gets dismissed.

As for cameras does it really matter? These kids get a pass if they are caught because it would be racist to jail them.

If the elected refuse to crack down on these looters then the stores will have no choice but to close their doors or put up bullet proof glass and everything will be passed through a slot after it is paid for. Who wants to live like that in perpetual lockdown? It would be like living in a prison.

Lightfoot is a typical Liberal, she is out of touch with reality.
The mayor has no responsibility for bail, prosecution, plea bargaining and sentencing.

This mayor has not defunded the Police and strongly opposes doing so.

This mayor is highly critical of the state bail reform.

The mayor is not responsible for bail, prosecution, plea bargains or sentencing.

That’s a county/ state thing.
