Parents are not fans of Kamala and newborns in 2020 did not get named Kamala in large numbers. The government searches the top 100 and surprisingly, Kamala is not in the top 100 favored names (since 2000).
Walking through the local Mall the other day I saw a kiosk that was selling calendars and along with the cute animals was a calendar that featured Biden. Worse was they had one with Kamala. Imagine 12 months of those 2 staring at you? Who is buying these? I wanted to stop and ask the clerk if those calendars came with darts.
And why do we care about what people name their babies.
I find it rather interesting, myself. I'm not in the least bit surprised that Kamala hasn't cracked the top 1000, not the least because K. Harris was pretty obscure until near the end of the year 2020, the latest year that the Social Security Administration has released its data. The total lack of Barack in the top 1000 in any year does surprise me, given B.H. Obama's strong popularity in certain quarters.
Incidentally, the name Natalie has ranked in the top 1000 every year since 1900, as far back as SSA's baby name site goes. It's been in the top 100 every year since 1976 and in the top 50 every year since 1996. It peaked in 2008, at No. 13; but it's still pretty high up there even now. Your name is a timeless classic that has plenty of staying power. Personally, I think it's a lovely name. Now come on, admit it, don't you think all this is interesting stuff?
