Thank goodness. We are more able to identify areas of concern that treatment facilities may be missing and adjust accordingly.
Im not saying wastewater shouldn't be tested and treated. I am suspicious of govt entities doing it down to individual households.
If nothing, the covid response and the resulting rhetoric for vaccine passports, contact tracing, healthcare rationing, etc. should make everyone uneasy about further govt prying into their lives.

Where is that happening? How would they do that?

I suggest some tour their local sewage treatment plant.
That was one first places DH took me. IIRC it was our 3rd date. Driving home from a ballgame I saw lights in the distance in the middle of nowhere east of Houston. Oh, that's a sewage treatment plant, wanta see?
The operator was enthusiastic to have visitors on a Saturday night.
DH was majoring in Civil engineering, specializing in water and sewage treatment.
I'm waiting for that miracle of science to be explained to me as well.
Once you mix all the stuff together they're able to say....identify a meth molecule but not that it's attached to Bob Bobberson's DNA as it's mixed with everyone else in town.
Would seem to be a basic DNA contamination issue there.
Some people might find this hard to swallow, but it's also happening in Korea.
Quote:
Researchers found abnormally high concentrations of Viagra and other erectile-dysfunction drugs in the wastewater in Seoul, South Korea, according to a study published in Scientific Reports earlier this month. The use of such drugs appeared to spike on weekends and in nightlife hot spots, the study found. Researchers estimated use was 31% higher in nightlife areas than in other parts of the city. The levels of the drug sildenafil — more commonly known by the brand name Viagra — detected in Seoul's wastewater were roughly three to four times those found in Brussels and two to five times those in Copenhagen, researchers said.
It is done by all the countries with the capacity to test.

I predict water wars in the future since if the enemy controls your water he controls your life.
They will tell us our water is so contaminated we can only buy their filtered water which is expensive.
You don't need to rely on someone telling you anything. You can have your water tested yourself.
