The Child Tax Credit came into being in 1997.

Exactly. Why should the taxpayers pay for your dumb decision to have kids you can't afford. That's all on you to figure out. You grow and learn that way. Take on a second job if need be. Act responsibly.

I remember when Live PD was on. Police would ask the people where they got their drugs. It was always "with the stimulus check'.

And not having to lie about it.
Not clear how the retirement of this temporary enhanced benefit will create new jobs.

It will likely mean it may be easier to fill chronic vacancies, especially at the entry level.

I am sure you meant to include “or don’t impregnate in the first place”.

What a joke. The government should not be subsidizing people's kid's extracurricular activities.

Mandate sterilization for deadbeat parents. If you refuse no more money. Also take away the right to vote if you can't support yourself. If you wish to vote you must get off the dole for 6 months and then you can apply again. The thing is these type of parents are the worst role models out there.

And everyone has weights that make it harder to stay on top, or climb back up if they fail. Theres a set of stairs that lead to higher standards of living, but it's more of an escalator going down. 2nd floor is middle class(which is in disrepair and at risk of collapsing), 3rd floor is wealthy, and the top floors are where the billioairs stay.

The goal is to simply build a first floor. So the first floor becomes the minimum amount of poverty. You still ahve to work your way up to the upper floors. You still gotta break some sweat, but your not gonna fall into the basement.

Bezos can still have Yacht inside his bigger Yacht.
Nice story, but if you think you're going to build that first floor with Bezos's money, you're delusional.

It'll be people on the second, third and fourth floors subsidizing that first floor and being forced to go down a floor because the government now dragged them down. Remember that the government, in and of itself, produces absolutely nothing. Bezos will still have his money because the middle class will be dragged down into the working class to make this happen.

Goodbye ‘godsend’: Expiration of child tax credits hits home

...The Robertses are now out $550 a month. That money helped pay for Girl Scouts, ballet and acting lessons and kids’ shoes, which Roberts noted are more expensive than adult shoes. The tax credit, he said, was a “godsend.”

“It’ll make you tighten up your belt, if you’ve got anything to tighten,” Roberts said about losing the payments....
Probably spent the $550 on a new Telluride

I don't understand . . . is this article supposed to make people feel sorry for this guy and his family? That he can't engage in expensive extracurricular activities for his children without the government's dime? You have some people struggling to keep a roof over people's heads and this article highlights the "struggles" of this family not being able to pay for the Girl Scouts, ballet, and acting lessons? Talk about tone deaf.
