Now what? Doe NATO accept this as the best that can be hoped for? Is this "the compromise" short of invasion that avoids sanction? Back to business as usual?
Russia announces it is invading Ukraine, which was the purpose of this recognition :
The area known as Donbas today has had sociopolitical ties to the Russians dating back to the 17th century and the Pereyaslav Council. It was part of the Russian Empire from the mid 1700s until the revolution in the early 20th century.
I'm not using this to justify what's going on but I can understand Russia's interest given the close historic and ethnic ties dating back to the early Tsardom.
In a wide-ranging televised speech Monday evening, Putin described Ukraine as a historical part of Russia that was illegitimately taken from Moscow and is now run by a “puppet regime” controlled by the U.S. and the West.
”Ukraine is not just a neighboring country, they are a part of our culture,” he said.
Noting that Ukraine has taken down some of its Soviet-era statues, he warned Kyiv, ”You want decommunization? We will show you what it’s like.”

Well don’t worry, Biden is here to save the day with more sanctions.
Again folks, Putin is going to get Ukraine and NATO won’t stop him.
Russia rather go to war than accept Ukraine as a democratic country friendly to the west. Not even China is getting involved with this, and this would be the perfect time for China to take Taiwan.
But like most conservatives, they think Donbas is the frontline of democracy or whatever.
