The Ukrainians do not like the Russians and want to remain independent, which is why they are in trenches with guns awaiting any Russian invasion.

As for Crimea, it's now in a hell of a state under Russian rule, with water shortages and failing crops.

Furthermore nobody gives a toss about the horrible Soviet era, whilst Russia today as an economy so weak it's not much better than Brazil or Canada.

Putin is even believed to have used Ukraine as an excuse to deflect attention from the Russian economy and domestic problems.

As for the narrative that the Ukrainian people are all some kind of far right Nazi's it's both utter nonsense and even offensive as nobody hates the Nazi's more than the Ukrainian people, and they also suffered at the hands of the Soviets.

On the plus side Russia is now a global pariah and we can finally hit back properly at Russia.

UEFA are almost certain to switch thie Champions League final away from St Petersburg as a result of overnight developments involving Russia and Ukraine, and I should imagine Wembley may be in with a shout of hosting it.

So no more international sport for Russia.

At the same time Nordstream 2 has now been officially scrapped and Russia won't be able to trade in most of the worlds currencies including Dollars and Pounds or use electronic systems such as swift.

Russian companies will no longer be able to raise funds on the major global stock exchanges and will also be targeted for sanctions. Whilst Russian Oligarchs are also to be targeted by western authorities.

Russian arms sales, that are important to it's military industrial complex and research will also be stopped via pressure from the west.

So more pressure on the crappy Russian economy (not much bigger than Brazil's) is set to make the country poorer, weaker militarily and a cultural and sporting pariah, and all over two small regions of Ukraine.

At the same time NATO will have a new impetus, and a number of European countries are likely to significantly increase their defence spending, with NATO vastly increase it's forces in the East flank near the Russian border.

This should all be popular back in Russia.

Putin has shot himself and Russia in the foot.

The EU should just add Ukraine now. Shut down Putin. If he continues his actions, Putin will be the reason for a new large war.

Would adding Ukraine to the EU or NATO not provoke Putin more?

Of course it would. NATO also "promised" no further expansion eastward.

What should NATO do? Offer enrollment to both Russia and The Ukraine. If the Russians refuse, it removes the political argument Putin has for pressuring The Ukraine.

It's not the "excuses" Easthome.

Those people ARE nasty, irrespectively from any Putin.
So it shouldn't have been even Putin, but it was supposed to be the West actually to step in and to expose these people for what they are.

Instead of it - the deafening silence.

Now why is that, Easthome?

The West should have invaded Russia back in the 90ies to establish peace and democracy, when the looting was going on and the money were channeled in the direction of your country's banks and real estate in particular, and people were dying on the streets.

Before any Putin showed up on the horizon.

But again, the West didn't do it.

Now why this would be a case, Easthome?

Once you will answer these questions, we'll talk about the "international laws" that the nasty Putin broke and keeps on going.

The EU is not stupid. They won't even admit Turkey, which is why Erdogan is so upset. EU countries don't want to admit poor countries and acquire more economic burdens.

This is wrong. Turkey Joined NATO in 1952. Last nation to Join is North Macedonia in 2017.
Time to add Ukraine to NATO.

The U.S.A. can no longer afford to police the world under this current administration.
Heck, they can't even police themselves.

Just like Nazi walking into Austria close to 80 years ago without drawing a weapon
