wowsers. those are ridiculously high prices for wally world. i bought a 5 pound bag of russets at walmart 5 days ago for 3.49, which is still much higher than normal.
I shop for our family and a couple of people who can't go for themselves, so I am there almost daily. Prices on some items goes up every day. One of the people likes the frozen, fully cooked sausage patties. Off brand has gone from $5.99 to $8.99 in a month.
I saw $17.99/lb for corned beef in the deli section !!! I was getting something else and just let my eyes wander along the row of meats while waiting for my potato salad.

All lunch meat here is at least $8.99 a lb. in the deli. It was $4.99 last year.

i know exactly the sausage patties you're talking about because my kids love them. last time i bought them they had gone from 5.99 to 6.99, but that's been at least a couple months.
It’s way too early for any crops in the Midwest.
Interestingly, when produce is in season, prices at the various farmer’s markets are usually much higher than grocers.
Must be a bumper crop of asparagus, somewhere, this year. Prices have been the lowest I have seen in decades.
On the flip side, limes used to run about 10/ $1. I needed a dozen yesterday and paid $8+ as they were sold by pound. They were bigger and juicer than what is typically available. Time to freeze the juice.
Mexico grows asparagus. The stuff I bought recently for $.99/lb was from Mexico

Walmart prices vary store to store. I am less than 5 miles from 2 Walmarts and prices on some things ( not just food) vary.

My point was that locally - grown is rarely cheaper, not that anything is growing in the Midwest, right now.
The US imports fresh fruits and vegetables from 125 countries. Mexico is the source of 77% of imports. Consumers want year round fruits and vegetables.
