Marketing 101, give the buyer what they want and now that includes identifying what products are available from those businesses supporting whatever catagory. No different than saying Organic, Sustainable, Humane, whatever faith, etc....
Many people want to support different causes and its an easy way to find the products without having to read every description.
But, how do you really know it's a woman owned shop? Could be just a dude dressed like one to get the people to buy from him. And what is minority? A white person living in Baltimore could very well be considered a minority. Or they could just claim to be 1/10th of something like Elizabeth Warren.
I know for certain, because I've been associated with such things for years, that many times a man will designate his wife as the owner or CEO of a small business so it'll have much better chances of getting contracts since it's a "woman-owned" business, while she's nothing but a figurehead. To me, that's downright deceptive. It happens all the time.

You guys really are naive if you believe this 'marketing' is to expend their customer base. If anything, it will shrink it. That's not why they're doing this.
Actually, Elon has no African in him at all. He was born European South African. And that indeed makes him a minority.
Now he would correctly be referred to as European American or alternatively, South African American. Which is still a minority in the US.
Sure he's African. He was born and mostly raised in South Africa, which is in Africa. Just like someone in the southern US is still an American. Being African has nothing to do with race or color.

Clearly it is different, since the cause is not some general good, but rather to prop up certain groups of people at the expense of others.

It’s not the same. Organic, sustainable etc are not people groups. By trying to be inclusive, they are being exclusive.

The word "owned" is not spelled "supporting". Too many letters.
