Nancy Pelosi, who is older than Biden, is proposing price controls. She wants it to be illegal to raise gasoline prices.

Does this genius know what will happen to supply?

Look at Venezuela that her friend Bernie praised as being better than the USA for the American dream, they implemented price controls and supply shortages worsened.

That's rich coming from the folks who are responsible for it in the first place.

Price controls are a common tool utilized by failing socialist regimes. Usually, but not always, it marks the end of socialist expansion. As it reaches a point where it is no longer sustainable, government's will attempt to salvage an unworkable system instead of fixing it and learning from their mistakes. Pelosi is like 80 years old. Her days of learning from her mistakes are long, long gone. This is why we shouldn't have geriatric leadership, and we definitely shouldn't be playing around with crap that doesn't work like socialism and price controls. Capitalism gives us the solution to all these problems. You just have to practice it.

How dumb do you have to be to think this is a good idea? If the oil companies cannot make any money, then they do not pump any oil.

So we complain when prices are rising, and also complain when measures are put in place to stop them rising?

What exactly do people want to happen?

Also, what exact policies caused the oil price to explode? I keep reading it's the president's fault, but I don't think he has any authority over OPEC.

Not dumb, senile. Just like Biden, although in Biden's case, he was never working with a full deck to begin with.

The way to stop prices from rising is to increase the supply. Basic stuff they used to teach to children before the school system became an indoctrination system pushing socialism and woke garbage.

What Pelosi is talking about doing has been tried all over the world. The only way it works is if governments time their price controls to when the prices are already going down, to make it look like the government's measures are having an effect. Most government's are not large enough to set prices for the whole free market. China, with 1/4th globe's population and a huge stash of commodities gets away with it, but it's not easy. And if you don't control 1/4 of the world's population like them, forget about it. The free market always wins in the end. Even China will lose eventually to the free market. You can't stop humans from being free forever.

When bad policy is what is causing them to rise, of course, people are going to complain. When the government wants to put in an even bigger failed policy to try and "control" them, yes people are going to complain more.

How about for starters stop saying you are going to shut down the oil industry giving companies ZERO incentive to invest in production. Then don't follow that up with eliminating the ability to drill for oil and making what land is available more expensive to use.

Welp, I can't rep you again, but that was my very first thought.

My second thought was, 'How many times do Dems have to do this before people finally catch on?'

They create a problem, blame someone else, and then pretend to come up with a solution that sounds good, until you actually go further than those initial words. And the Dems know that people will not dig deeper. All they hear is, 'We're trying to save you from having to pay so much at the pumps. We totally care about you, really. Like, I mean, we really, really do. Now vote for us, again.'

And/or:

They push a bill that they know damn good and well isn't going to pass, and when it doesn't, they point the finger at the Republican party, and tell the people, "You see? It isn't us! It's them! They are the reason you can't have nice things. We tried, and they said 'No'. It's not our fault. Now, if you just keep voting for us, we'll make things better. We promise. Pinky swear, and everything!"

I'll say it again: Almost every last Dem in politics doesn't care about you. The majority of the Republicans don't care about you. We have very few Representatives/Senators who DO actually care. A couple on the left, a handful on the right, but the rest? They. Don't. Care. About. You. and they will lie, and lie, and lie again straight to your face, and you all keep falling for it.

Absolutely. Independence means not getting it from Canada too. That doesn't happen instantly, it would take planning, something no administration is ever good at.

So what should we do now to stop prices rising further?

Abolish all regulations on oil drilling and exploration and open up ALL federal land for oil exploration and drilling.

Fire ANYONE who utters the word "Climate Change(TM)" and stop trying to appoint communists like that Russian Saule Omarova or whatever.

Stop saying you're going to shut down the oil and gas industry.

Let capitalism do what it does best. Government needs to DO LESS. STOP HELPING AND GET OUT OF THE WAY.

No one's going to care about the environment if they're going to have to burn dung for fuel because we have no source of energy.
