Headline: 'Insatiable' gas demand for summer despite record prices
"Record gasoline prices are not keeping down summer travelers who are planning to hit the roads at a higher rate this year than last, according to a new survey.
"Fuel industry data firm GasBuddy found that 58% of people intended to road-trip this summer. The share represents an increase from last summer, when per-gallon prices were around $1.50 lower than the record $4.593-per-gallon nationwide average Friday."

Here in Myrtle Beach it is having an impact Reservations for Memorial weekend are down from last yeat
Don't forget Myrtle Beach and other local tourist destinations saw a surge in tourists in 2020 and 2021. With international travel being restricted, & some areas restricting capacity, what folks could do....many tourist spots saw numbers like they had never seen.
Charleston never saw a down time from 2020 to now. It's crazy.
My son lives in Colorado and he says the increase in traffic in the mountains on roads, at parks, even the more 'off the grid' sites was substantial during 2020 and 2021. He would get up at 4:30 to access some of his favorite hiking and rock climbing facilities. And it was all through the winter during ski season. He said this ski season wasn't as bad. Why? Because folks were back to traveling internationally, capacities weren't reduced in some areas.
Also -- I know with COVID I'm careful to book places. During 20/21 you could easily book flights, hotels, vrbo's and know that you could cancel last minute. Most places are back to regular cancellation policies and with the threat of COVID.....it's a gamble.

I have made one trip for a family emergency this year, and I will likely be traveling again in a couple of months for the same reason, which will deplete our frequent flier miles. My spouse will be traveling for work in June. We have no plans for leisure travel whatsoever. As for our driving, we do very little. It just isn't worth it.
I have no income. I get money from selling my stuff or I drive around finding stuff on a curb and sell it. Can't afford to drive around looking for stuff.
Could it be because the crime rate has gone up in Myrtle Beach, because of gang violence.
Sure.it probably isn't the increased cost of gas or that hotels/rentals went up about
$50 more per night
