Every time there is a school shooting there is a segment of the population calling for restricting or banning firearms, specifically “assault weapons”. For those who do so, I have a question:
Assuming your wish comes true and “assault weapons” are banned, what will be your go to solution when the next school shooting happens? Because it will happen, no matter how many gun restrictions you put in place. The restriction of no firearms allowed on school grounds hasn’t stopped school shootings (in fact, school shootings happen more frequently now than they did before schools were made gun free). Restricting access to assault weapons won’t stop them either. So, what’s the next move for you in the hypothetical case of an assault weapons ban that doesn’t actually stop the assaults?
Look at it this way, the school shootings just happened, give it a week or two and these gun threads will decrease. thats how it happens, people get hyped up about mass shootings briefly and then move on.
Look at the board BEFORE the shootings, not many gun threads, give it a week or two and we will be back to normal.

You're right, and it's a damning indictment of the country. Takes a week or so for a mass shooting at an elementary school to fade into the background.

Well, they certainly wouldn't shake their heads and say to themselves, "How could we have been so stupid?"
What they would do is double down on taking innocent people's rights away and double down on not punishing criminals.
As I just wrote on another thread, it's not the guns that need restriction, it's ownership. A troubled, unlicensed, and untrained 18 year old should not be able to walk into a gun shop and by an AR-15. A responsible, mentally competent, experience, licensed, trained, long-time gun owner should be allowed to buy an AR-15, or even a more powerful weapon.

And let's even say that we could snap our fingers and all "AR-15s" were gone. Some other firearm will become the next "Most popular choice of mass shooters."
Then what? Ban that one too?
Honda Accords are the most commonly used getaway cars. If we "banned" them, another model would take the title!
