Yes I know, fear porn or they are only reporting this to take attention away from Biden's failed administration or fill in the blanks. I am not trying to do that. With that out of the way. I think this should be watched closely. As long as deaths and hospitalizations don't go out of control nothing to worry about. If they do then Biden has another problem to add to his plate of disasters. Especially since he did his victory dance over covid more than a year ago. Has not aged well.

COVID-19’s 6th wave begins, with more seriously ill and more deaths

Medical centers around the country have reported an increase in hospitalized patients, those who are seriously ill and the number who have died.

On Sunday, 11,438 people tested positive for coronavirus, and 68,000 tested positive over the past seven days, the Health Ministry reported Monday. At last count, 53,828 people had an active infection, most of them with the BA5 subtype of the Omicron variant.

The internal medicine department at Ziv Medical Center in Safed is the most overburdened, at 123% capacity, followed by Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in Hadera, at 121%.
"If the criteria for being in another COVID-19 wave is an extreme increase in the number of positive tests, then we are in the midst of a wave."
Dr. Nadav Sorek

I don't want to hear the "C" word ever again. Nobody around where I live ever brings it up. To us it's like it never happened. That includes the management where I work. They used a different "C" word to reference the state of Minnesota at our plant meeting this morning. Chuckle.

It will be interesting to see how BA.5 acts here. While I'm not young (58), I have no comorbiities at all and finally caught Omicron (probably BA.2 variant) in April. I'm 9 weeks out and still not well. I did not require hospitalization but it was not "just a cold" for me either. Seeing a specialist next week in fact.

Anyway, these variants are very transmissable and the sheer numbers of people who are getting it are going to contribute a higher number of hospitalizations and deaths, even at a low percentage.

Honestly, there is not much that can be done about it. I do believe very good mitigations work (better HVAC, being outdoors, everyone masking) but we're past all that so we just deal, keep our fingers crossed, and hope that we or our loved ones don't come up short in the COVID lottery.

I get the PTSD on this. But kind of like the other C word, cancer. If you survive it doctors keep on eye on you to make sure it does not come back. You don't have to go back. You can just say you don't want to hear the word again.

Yes, we all know that vaccination and prior infection bestow little protection from infection against omicrons variants. We also know that vaccination or prior infections protects against severe illness in younger persons at least and Israel's high rate explains the low hospitalization and death rates. The US has a much lower vaccination rate but our elderly population is pretty high. We will also have omicron specific vaccines by fall that Israel does not have now should they be deemed necessary.

President Trump says they have saved lots of lives. I agree with Trump. Not perfect but not fake.

The pattern of wave after wave taking the lives of the oldest and most vulnerable is something that is now well established and is not likely to change. Age is a comorbidity. There comes a point when vaccines and therapeutics just aren't going to work well.

Covid will be the cause or contributor to the death of many in the boomer generation as time goes by.
