I'm surprised so many men support the notion that men are to blame for our problems.
Men that fail to fulfill their parental responsibilities are part of the problem, not men in general. Women that fail to fulfill their parental responsibilities are equally part of the problem.
There was a female CD poster a few years ago that went off complaining about men. She had been married three times and all three of her husbands had been horrible men. She went on about how all men were just terrible based on her experience. So I pointed out to her that there was one thing that her three ex-husbands have in common. Her.
What does it say about a woman that continually makes poor choices in sexual partners and birth control?

We started a War on Poverty with all the best of intentions. But we have all heard the road to hell is paid with those "best intentions". We created a system of Social Welfare meant to truly help people get out of poverty but in order to qualify for the most benefit you were greatly incentivize to be a single MoM without a father in the household to form the nuclear family. We did it to ourselves. The only way I see this stopping is going to take decades and cost more money then it is now. We have to incentivize people to stay together and marry provide benefits for staying together and raising those children. For most of human history couples didnt necessarily stay together for love but for economic reasons.
This idea does cause me a bit of disgust since I realize the idea of paying people like this who wont do it on their own while so many who do are paying for it is not an ideal answer. But otherwise what else are we to do. We can cut all the welfare class off but this means millions of children placed at risk because their parents use them to qualify for benefits. Although there are certainly some who would love to see this it will never happen and politically is a no go from the beginning. We can continue as we are and do nothing but complain and things will keep getting worse. I am 54 and certainly in my lifetime seen the great increase in single parenthood during those years and I see no reason why that trend wont continue. After all we financial incentivize it. Or we can try something different and incentivize staying together and that having a nuclear family brings back all those families from poverty in a generation or two.
Ideally, yes, it would be great to have two-parent households, parents who both love their children and each other. However, there are way too many households who have fathers who are there in name only, who either abuse their children, or cause such turmoil because they themselves are unhappy. I used to ask my mom why she didn't leave my dad because they fought all the time. The only times we were happy in our home was when he was at work. Sometimes having fathers at home isn't always for the best.

So-o.....is there some secret to doing it right with Brats......or do we fail there, too?
