The premise is faulty. North from Ottawa, for a thousand miles, is a solid mass of trees unaffected by what "free people" do, until the natural Tundra (a positive asset) finally defeats them. You could cut every tree in Ottawa to make golf tees, and it would have no effect on the broad scope of Conservation.

Ottawa, and every city, is a skyline of cubicles 30-high, in which a high percentage of people produce neither gods nor services of any marketable value. They consume paper to file and power to light their make-work cubicle, to preserve the grandiose theory that no-one shall eat without wasting a day's time.

There-in lies the dragon that must be beheaded.

If you're looking to build a movement that respects the rights of the individual, we've had that already, it is called the Bill of Rights. (don't shoot the messenger, if you're not a fan of the ACLU) This brief, summed it up:

The Bill of Rights: A Brief History

"The absence of a "bill of rights" turned out to be an obstacle to the Constitution's ratification by the states.
<snip>
The nation's founders believed that containing the government's power and protecting liberty was their most important task, and declared a new purpose for government: the protection of individual rights."

The Founding Fathers were philosophical and they sought to establish a way of life for the citizens who had migrated to this land. imo, where they went wrong, they gave to the Congress the power to legislate.
There have been some that prefer Founding Brothers or just Founders because of the association of many of them with the planter patriarchy. There are also those that the fact that the patriarchs were in fact influenced by a matrilineal Asmaria Aboriginal state that has been as much wiped out from the face of the as their contributions to inspirations & influences amongst the Founders.

I realize even in the northern states from Rhode Island down to the mid-atlantic, slavery was a very touchy issue as many not only derived their fame & fortune from it but also even after their state abolition still traded with slavers from the furthest reaches of the imperial plantation.

Well on a more upbeat note:

I don't think it could happen except by Constitutional amendment. Basically, there would need to be an amendment that puts the burden of proof on the government, to show that any restriction of individual liberties beyond the basic common law is actually necessary for safety (rather than simply asserting it without proof.)

Anything without such proof should require a very large supermajority (80%+) support.

This would have to include laws that you probably support (e.g. immigration restrictions and age restrictions on things like voting, working, contracts, etc.)

Because in a democracy, you can't demand that others avoid doing things that make you uncomfortable, while simultaneously insisting you should be able to do things, even if they make others uncomfortable.

To do so would not be democracy, but dictatorship.

I think this decision may be based on the segment of the libertarian community that immediate legalization might lead to greater taxation which might lead to greater bureaucratization.

This could have chain reactions, especially since these cats pollinate wild plants.

Should be of interest to conservationists & those interested in the organic (i.e. not domestic or synthetic).

The migratory monarch butterfly is the newest member of the endangered species list, as dwindling numbers accelerated by climate change, overdevelopment and pesticide use bring the iconic insect closer to extinction.

Climate change and changing weather patterns are also bringing the monarch, a crucial pollinator of plant habitats from Canada to Mexico, closer to extinction, as drought limits the growth of milkweed and increases the frequency of wildfires, and higher temperatures trigger earlier migrations before milkweed is available, the IUCN found.

Interesting development for those interested in the rights of the individual (private property or otherwise) even against family\clan or tribe & state.

For those interested in the organic (i.e., not domestic nor synthetic).

The importance of rich, wild & diverse flora definitely has an affect on wild fauna.

Quote:
“On the east coast of Florida along the intercoastal waterway, the main food source for manatees is sea grass,” says Miller. “Over the years, this grass has been dying due to algal blooms, and last winter it kind of came to a head. Hundreds of manatees died in the Indian River Lagoon—that started last winter and it’s still going on. We’re seeing thin manatees even through the summer. They’ll leave for warm waters, and most should have found good food after leaving, but we’ve still found a couple of cases of thin manatees. They haven’t been able to recover.”

The Anti-Federalists and Virginia Anti-Constitutionalists already laid all this out way back in the day, and were ignored.

From the Articles of Confederation of very small and super limited central government to the US Constitution and a much stronger and more powerful central government was all of 12 years actual elapsed time. From the ratification of the US Constitution to the central government using military force to literally collect federal excise taxes at gunpoint was less than 2 years.

And recall, we are talking about a government created by and composed of, by majority, scholars of the Scottish Enlightenment, Greek and Roman democracy and republicanism, and English Common Law, who had within the previous decade, cast off the shackles of the most powerful tyrant on the planet at that time. And within a decade, they were singing off the same sheet of music as George III himself.

I often wonder at how delicious the irony was for George III. Watching these upstart hillbillies send his Redcoats packing, and then turn into the exact same tyrant they accused him of being before the ink of the almighty Constitution was even dry. I bet that dude went to his grave clowning on that.
