Look, I voted for Obama. But all this hatred spewing towards Southerners or Conservative Christians just makes you as guilty of hate and prejudice/racism as those you're accusing of.

So I'd like to toss this one to all. Every major US city that is run by Democrats is filled with crime. WHY? What are liberals doing wrong here?

New York City was filthy and dangerous until Republican Rudy Giuliani came along and cleaned it up. I went back and could hardly recognize it.

If your answer is racism, don't bother posting. I've heard of that one before. And I think everyone has too.

I think what the issue is that none of the Democrats elected here care about the city or the people there. They care about lining their pockets.

I live near Detroit so I know this. And the ones who do care, do not get enough funding or support. Nobody seems to care locally.

Crime is crime and if we are really at the point where we are debating which "sides" crime we would rather "live amongst" to make us feel better about our political choices we have truly scrapped the bottom of the barrel.

Sometimes lots of these cities are beyond saving (Detroit, Oakland, Camden, Flint, Gary). Jesus Christ himself could run those towns and they'd still be the pits.

And I go to New York all the time and it's not a clean and land of milk and honey like you say. You still can't go out after dark and parts of some of the other burroughs are among the most dangerous neighborhoods in America (Brownville, South BX).

Crime is one of those things that gets exaserbated in major cities with high poverty a very dense population. It's the center of everything around the area and they typically attract those with low incomes and those on the lower end of society.

Simply based on the voting tendencies of those who live in a lot of these cities chances are we'll never see a Republican mayor in a place like Philadelphia, Cleveland, etc. so we'll never know if they have the answer. I applaud Giuliani for what he did to New York but keep in mind NYC never nearly had the social and unemployment problems of cities like Detroit and New York is still FAR from perfect.

If you want to look at it from a bigger perspective, look at the crime rates of states as a whole and their voting tendencies:

20 Most Dangerous States 2009

In terms of who they voted for in 2008 it went 10-10, but only a handful of those 10 Obama states (CA, IL, MI, DE, MD) are consistently blue.

States are a tough sell. Would you say Western NY is similar to NYC and Long Island? In my own state of Tennessee we have 3 distinct regions and the western part of the state has a different voting pattern than the eastern part. It's hard to paint a whole state the same way.

Easy,
because the leftists ( not the liberals) are soft on crime.

In essense, the ideology of socialism regards the criminals as ..."victims of social circumstances ",not as bad persons...
So,the socialists are actually criminal lovers, they want softer & softer "apprehension ",because the criminals are "innocent " to them.
The society is "guilty"...
