You left off the real reason contraceptives should remain legal - it’s no one’s business.
They also left off the reason contraceptives (along with a whole lotta other stuff) was illegal in the first place. Comstock Law passed in 1873 and abolished in 1957.
Listen to the right wing neo-fascists, the government always knows best. Ban abortions, then ban contraceptives, then ban GUNS.... LOL

The genesis is the need to conflate that which is clearly religious (restricting contraceptives) with that which is not (restricting abortion).
No one is seriously considering banning contraceptives in the US, but that doesn't keep abortion advocates from pretending some woman-hating religious cult wants to do just that.
It's a way to muddy the waters for the low-information types.
it's pretty stunning the number diving headfirst into that shallow puddle.

Precisely. When I looked at the results, I was surprised at first … 14% favored making contraception illegal? I wouldn’t have predicted more than 1% at most. But then it dawned on me that the poll is almost certainly skewed by pro-choice ideologues wanting to create the illusion that there was a measurable threat to birth control.
I believe that your typical conservatives who want legitimate restrictions on abortion would never favor restricting contraception because there is a direct conflict of purpose, which is typically a dysfunctional trait left wingers possess, like wanting to take guns away because police are there to protect us, and then promoting the defunding and elimination of the police.
I find the very notion of restricting contraception to be offensive to basic common sense, which again is more reflective of the minds of left wing fanatics. Methinks this is a leftist straw man argument.
Literally NO ONE thinks that. (Except maybe 6 people in Utah). But that is not stopping you from using a condom.
Clarence Thomas in his dissent on the abortion case clearly stated a desire to revisit the other cases decided with "substantive due process" which he would like to throw out completely. These include the cases which gave us constitutional protection for birth control, against state anti-sodomy laws, and for gay marriage.
Birth control is absolutely on the radar of some elements of the far right wing, as Clarence Thomas's writing shows.

Already numerous Republicans on record saying to ban contraceptives. This is the America you guys wanted; well you got it.
I can't believe that there are people who actually voted for making contraceptives illegal....why? .... and why should it be the government's business?
The church opposes all of these things, (abortion, gay marriage, contraception).
My guess is, for some reason, their power and influence came roaring back...question is, what brought this on?
Cultural changes and laws going too far to the freaking whacko hedonistic side. The religious nuts are no longer are the ones us normal people are worried are the dangerous extremists on the cusp of harming our children or destroying our society. They’re still extremists, they just are not the ones presenting the greatest threat.
