Rachael Levine supports experimental and irreversible medical treatments on children and teenagers that suffer from gender dysphoria. In fact, according to the U.S. Assistant Secretary for Health, Rachael Levine... to oppose these experimental surgeries is ‘opponent of LGBTQ equality’.
"Opponents of LGBTQ equality have targeted trans and quee-r youth to score political points, all to distract from the fact that they do not have any solutions to the problems that we face today. They have stooped so low as to try to punish parents criminally for seeking gender-affirming care for their children who need it," Levine, who was speaking in a personal capacity, said during the town hall.
How is non reversible surgery for a childhood mental disorder "gender affirming care" ? Isn't that body mutilation without cause. Things are getting crazier every day.
Okay. Speaking as a liberal here, just for reference.
No, I don't believe they should. I do believe they should be allowed to *live as* a different gender, if that is their desire. I don't think it should either be pushed, or pushed back against. Makeup, hair style, clothing, tone of voice, nickname, anything that outwardly and inwardly makes them feel at home in their body.
I don't think a child should be able to cosmetically alter his/her body permanently until the age of majority, or perhaps age 16? - that's just my feeling on it. While I do believe some children are born knowing they are a different sex, it's impossible to know when that is actually happening and when it is something that could change. Because gender altering surgery is permanent, it's too serious to do just on a team of outsiders' collective best guess in that regard.
I feel the same way with other permanent surgeries, such as breast enhancement or reduction, bariatric surgery and so on.
Nope. If they are not old enough to make a responsible decision concerning buying a beer or a firearm, they certainly have no business making an irreversible, life altering decision to sexually mutilate their bodies.
No surgery will alter a gender. I don't support "gender affirming" surgery for kids. I would support it for adults to the extent that they pay for it like they would a cosmetic surgery. At the end of the day, that's really what this is.
I tend to lean liberal in this topic. I too wouldn't support it either... I think all avenues to improve the child's life should be explored before resorting to such measures. This includes allowing them to mature to an adult to make decisions as an adult.
There are medical conditions at birth including but not limited to ambiguous genitalia that can bring a child's gender into question. These are medical issues best handled by professionals and parents and I do not mean politicians....or judges.
