We are both Catholic, yet don't have a big problem with abortion. My wife does not, as she feels she is not in a position to tell others how to live. I don't oppose abortion, as it means fewer liberals.

The masses are willing to start a civil war over politics while the elites in both parties laugh at us while privately breaking bread with each other.

A lot of these "cultural" issues are just games meant to manipulate the masses on an emotional level due to the fact that society has become too dumbed down to strictly focus on federal spending, the economy, foreign policy, and checks and balances.
Most of this abortion stuff like other social issues is a red herring to keep the masses divided. If not abortion, politicians on both sides will find another social issue to divide people. Many of your political heroes are WWE wrestlers with suits and no masks on.

It's akin to using "inflation remains low under 2%" from a 2018 article to proclaim that the Biden WH has successfully vanquished the dragon of their own making.
It's the same principal with pretty much any amoral evil practice. Take murdering your wife or husband for example. Just because somebody has opposed spousal murder all their life does not necessarily mean that they won't go nuts and murder their spouse. Despite knowing what they did was wrong, they did it anyways. No doubt they had reasons and justifications in their head, but deep down they knew that what they did was horribly horribly wrong.
And it is an extreme mischaracterization to say, "Only a bunch of white men oppose abortion." Within the extremely general and non-nuanced arena of "should abortions be allowed" 35% of women say no, they should not. That nothing close to 0%, and not much different than men responding -- 41% say no abortion should not be allowed. Now asking on such general terms is a catch-all and does not really tell you what's going on.
Pretty much everyone is okay with abortion if the mother's life is in danger and there is no chance to save both mother and child. Support for abortion in the case of rape is extremely high. So just asking "should abortion be legal" is a pretty lousy question. Some people might answer that they support abortion with only extreme cases in mind. Others will say they oppose it, but are only answering the question with the 99% of abortions as after-the-fact birth control in mind, while being fine with abortion for extreme cases.
Support for legal abortion absolutely plummets when you second and third trimesters enter into the equation.
