And understanding of the courts' role is also important. What are they teaching in schools these days? Not what they taught the first half of the last century, that's for sure.

The Court is above politics. Its mission is making sound LEGAL decisions, not pandering to the whims of an uneducated populace. We have Congress and the executive branch for that.

Courts are supposed to be "fair" to each side, that is to earnestly consider the legal arguments and evidence presented by both sides. Neither jury nor judge is supposed to attempt "well, the evidence is this person actually broke the law, but it wouldn't be 'fair' to find them guilty." But they surely might balance "fairness" in the sentencing phase.

that's because they do that mid-term poll only in years where there's a ... mid-term. They're pretty clear about this early-on. The last one done was 2018.

It's interesting that, unlike 2018 when they chose August, they chose May which is so far in advance of the actual voting. You don't think there was any purpose to that, do you? Just coincidence?

SCOTUS is supposed to uphold the US Constitution. That's it.

maybe Republicans should add more seats after November. Sounds like the Democrats are on board for that. Finally they agree.

well, again, I would agree "voters lost interest" years before the leak and shortly after the leak, and they have renewed interest again right now for a couple weeks. IIRC, the question was "what is your TOP issue" that 5% answered, not the 25% that said it was an important issue 2 months ago.

I assume "abortion" is an important issue right now to at least 80% of "good Democrats" and the 11% or so of mostly-Republicans who did, do and will always want as near-total of a ban as they can get.

That would make it an important issue to about 1/3 - 33% - right now. The problem for people like Goodnight, who want to cling to it being a "top issue" (not just important) is that about 90% of the Congressional races and about 90% of the Senate seats are already near guaranteed for Jan 2023. And so, it's only in "purple races" that they can hope the singular issue of "abortion" swings a few voters their way.

Just because it's super-important to a Democrat voter who has and will always vote D in Houston, Texas is meaningless.

I think you mean January '24.

Though it would be delicious for the R's to get the House and 60 in the Senate, increase the SCOTUS to 11 and then tell Biden they weren't confirming anyone that was a liberal. And if they somehow lost in Nov '24, change the # and all the rules right back.

Sure people are pissed off.

Now they have to act like grown ups.
It is clear that as each states decides what procedures, when & how and what drugs can be administered --- it is clear women are NOT being treated like grown-ups.

Perhaps they should start ACTING like adults and USE BIRTH CONTROL.

95% of unintended pregnancies are due to women voluntarily participating in unprotected sex, by their own admission (Guttmacher).
