While I support the 2A, and hunters, while not being one myself, I don't understand this type of hunting. Are these hogs really that big of an issue ?
They are a huge issue in some states, including Texas. They can cause vast amounts of damage. Some people will not eat wild hogs because of parasites and such.
True, shot placement matters very much, and hogs will run every direction after the first shot. Unless you only want the first one, a semi auto is better than a bolt action for hogs. I have a very "non scary" Mini 30 that would make a great hog rifle, although I have never used it for that.
That said, I have taken a 200+ lb domestic hog with a .22 LR for slaughter. Again, shot placement matters.
I grew up butchering. My grandfather would toss an ear of corn in the pen and shoot the hog in the top if the head with a .22LR. The hogs generally ran 200-250 pounds.

Like another poster stated, this is more pest control than hunting. That makes much more sense.

They are here in South Carolina. They just closed Congaree National Park a couple of weeks ago and sent in crews with rifles to thin them out. They do an enormous amount of crop damage along the rivers here.

Close up they work well.
Yep, that's how you do it. My grandfather also raised hogs and was the one to show me that method, and he was also the one to hand me my first ever rifle in .22 LR at age 13, a JC Higgins bolt action. Wish I still had it.
