Her reign spanned 15 British Prime Ministers from Sir Winston Churchill to Liz Truss and 14 US Presidents.

And on September 9, 2015, she became longest-reigning British monarch, surpassing Queen Victoria's record...70 years.

Condolences to everyone who mourns her.

I figured she would not live long after the passing of Philip.

As above my condolences to those who loved and admired her.

I find the whole monarchy thing a bit odd but Queen Elizabeth was by all I can tell a fine ruler* and an admirable human being.

*The Queen, and now King Charles I guess has, had a lot more real power than a lot of Americans realize.

There will now be a state of national mourning in Britain, and the Queen will lie in state, either in Edinburgh or London.

There will be a full state funeral the first since Winston Churchill's in 1965.

Sailors of the Royal Navy will pull a gun carriage with her coffin on it to Westminster Abbey they will be accompanied by men and horses from the Household Division.

There will be a full religious service at Westminster Abbey after which the Queens coffin will be taken to Windsor for private burial alongside her husband, her father and mother, her sister and many other Royals.

The Last Full British State Funeral - Sir Winston Churchill 1965.

I was fine until I looked up the Buckingham Palace website (mentioned in the link above). Then I got teary eyed.

King Charles I reigned from 1625 until his execution in 1649. King Charles II reigned from 1660 to 1685. It may be that the new King chooses a different regnal name. We'll have to wait for the announcement.

Do you really think he would change his name now, at 74? That seems unlikely, though I admit I don't know a lot about how these things work. It just seems like that would be silly at this point.

She’s dead. England should end the Monarchy on this note. Unfortunately, none of her children would make a decent king.
