When you look at the latest congressional races, we see the overwhelming majority of land in America is home to Republicans or Conservatives. A very small percentage of the land mass is Democrat or Liberal. Democrats and Liberals can and often do control things nationally, as the highest population areas are mainly in the BLUE areas.
What this has brought us in this country is basically a bifurcated country. It's very simple to understand.
The needs, wants and requirements for the RED areas are not at all the same as the BLUE areas.
The needs, wants and requirements for the BLUE areas are not at all the same as the RED areas.
There is no workable one sized solution for the country, even though the left continues to try to force it down everyone's throats.
Both sides are so far apart at this point and those on the left in positions of power will not stop demonizing those on the right, there simply is no path forward anymore.
We are two completely different countries located within the same borders. We have almost nothing in common. We think differently and at this point, have no respect for each other.
It's over folks. Stick a fork in America. The dream is dead.

Even if he won, the issue still remains we are a completely divided country. We have two groups of people who have nothing in common with the other. We simply do not want the same things and are totally against what the other is for.
Most countries worldwide have a liberal, outward-looking, cosmopolitan principal city (or several)... surrounded by vast rural areas of conservatism. Look at Paris vs. the rest of France, or London vs. the rest of England, or Moscow and St. Petersburg vs. the rest of Russia.
Revolutions or independence movements work, when there is a clear regional divide. Sudan and South Sudan. Or North Macedonia. These are examples of where one people or ethno-cultural group live in one geographic region, and another in a different one... so they split.
Could Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio and El Paso somehow split from the rest of Texas? Probably not.

The majority of Americans are idiologically polarized with a small centrist population that tends to swing elections depending on if they vote GOP or Dem.
Your USA map is useless for politics and does not represent the relative picture of the electoral college.
Here is an accurate representation of US conservative and liberal states, weighted for population. 2008 at left, 2016 at right. The 9 states that changed the election were Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, West Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Florida. All of the other states are entrenched either red or blue.

I just understand when it comes to "national" politics, it's over. There will never be a middle ground. People are too far apart at this point. It is what it is.

Can't go by state, as one small area can have and often does have way more people, thus making the entire state look BLUE.
That's why using Congressional House Districts is the best way to find out how people lean across the entire state and country.
