This is not a good situation.

Hopefully, the hired security have no issues shooting someone, because it is only a matter of time before the local thuggery try something stupid.

Yep and in other news the Dems will exclaim that they helped to create some new jobs.. AH yeah when you left the store owner no choice but to hire security guards. What is that going to do to his bottom line? Will he be forced to raise prices on his goods and services? Probably.

I wonder what is going to happen if some Thug takes on one of those guards and is shot dead in the process. Will the mob then burn down the gas station? Will the city arrest and prosecute the guard?

The DA in NYC didn't like it when the elderly Bodaga clerk stabbed the guy that was about to beat him. There was talk about charging that poor victim with murder.

If something does happen at the gas station the victims better hope the cameras are working.

i think the bigger issue is why hasn’t Philadelphia banned gas stations yet? they must not be following the settled science of climate change. you wouldn’t need armed guards if everyone was plugging in their EV

Unlike a gas powered car which can be refueled in minutes the average charge time for ev's are HOURS, not minutes. A person could leave their car charging to go for a coffee and it would be stripped by the time they came back in some these inner city neighborhoods.

I keep on thinking about the original Robocop movie which at the time portrayed life and culture in a dystopian manner. The fiction of the 1980s has become today's reality. In the movie the cops uniform is today's riot gear and the city is looking for a contracted police force ie most cities struggling to find police applicants. The criminals in the movie are today's flash looting mobs. Last but not least pay attention to the newscasts and commercials in the movie.

I don't if the writers had a wild imagination or actually thought that's how it would be but they nailed the future better than a stadium full of psychics.

That director also did, Starship Troopers. He is a master of brilliant Satire.

A different movie that you reminded me of is Demolition Man, where the cops of the future are so passively neutered they don't know what to do or how to handle a real criminal that was from the past.

If he embarasses the city too much politically they'll send in inspectors to look for whatever violations they can find and dredge up so local activists to accuse him of racism and sexism.

Ahh, the old Democrat "You're not seeing what you are looking right at" line.
