Cambridge Dictionary was accused of kowtowing to ‘a few woke activists’ today after it updated its definition of ‘woman’ to include anyone who ‘identifies as female’.
A supplementary definition in the online dictionary now states the word can mean ‘an adult who lives and identifies as female though they may have been said to have a different sex at birth’.
Examples of usage include ‘Mary is a woman who was assigned male at birth’ and ‘she was the first trans woman elected to a national office’.
This whole “sometimes doctors make mistakes and ‘assign’ the wrong gender at birth” argument is ridiculous. But I also find humor in the fact that we’re supposed to TRUST THE SCIENCE (and ‘all’ doctors) when it comes to the COVID vaccine. But for gender? Well, sometimes doctors mess that up.

They're not being woke, they are giving a meaning of a word as it is used and understood. Sometimes the word woman is used in this way and some one may come across it used in this way, so it's important to include it. They are more about defining how something is and not so much about how you would like it to be. Kinda funny when you think about it.

Stop making excuses for the dumb woke movement. Just because someone somewhere uses a word differently does not mean the English language standard needs to be updated to fit their WRONG usage.
