Republicans are not the ones saying blacks are too dumb to vote on time so voting times cannot be cut. Republicans are not the ones saying blacks are too dumb to get a voter ID so we shouldn't have voter ID

Yes, Republicans ARE the ones saying blacks are too dumb That is conservatives' invention, not surprisingly, since it also allows them to say what they're really thinking, but hidden behind a pointed finger. Seems to be a constant thrill for Pubs.

However, "too dumb" is not the actual reasoning.

It's just what Pubs invented, and never get tired of repeating.

We see you.

Alabama used to have a regional DMV system that you can still see in place on the license plates in our state

1A = Birmingham
2A = Mobile
3A = Montgomery

These have been the 3 largest cities in the state by population by a mile for the last 100 ish years. to get a drivers license, you needed to go to one of these 3 cities. By the 90s this was spread out to the 12 or so largest cities and eventually all the counties seats.

I live in a county seat, and You still could only take the drivers test on Wednesday in 2008 , they took 12 people in the morning 12 at night, this was also true every day for renewals.

A couple of years ago (2015) the Alabama Republican Party wanted to shut down all the DMVs in the black belt outside of Montgomery and Dallas counties, 31 offices total around the state.

This would have left no DMV between Montgomery and Mobile. 84 miles from the mid point, and a population between the 4 total DMVs in those 2 cities of about 1,000,000.

Back then someone calculated it, probably Jon Archibald. but it would be impossible for just those already registered to get their licenses renewed in time for the 2016 election.

In short, no one on the left is claiming black people are stupid, we are saying republicans are deliberately creating a situation that would be impossible to accommodate even a fraction of voters when it comes to ID laws.

Whats sad is, that wasnt even the topic, the GOP purposefully cracking black voters is. Montgomery is split between 3 districts as of right now, but i assume in the new map, it will be whole again.

Map # 1 has 2 black majority seats. This map has Dems winning the 7th by 30 and a new 2nd by 10. Hopefully we get that map.

Having regional officers would not be an efficient way to do things. Currently, Huntsville is the largest city in Alabama. I have to wonder how Huntsville natives got their driver's license when it was just the big 3. Huntsville is 100 miles from Birmingham.

Based on what you're describing (and my own experiences since 2019), so much with Alabama's state government isn't efficient.

It would be hard for me to think that shutting down a bunch of DMV offices in the Black Belt would be just a coincidence. Considering Alabama's horrendous record with voting rights, and that being the Blackest region in Alabama, it's hard for me believe that it would be just a coincidence. Shutting down those offices would have made things even more inefficient. An engineered inefficiency. I suspect that the idea would have been to make voting cumbersome and costly.

An ID is needed to vote. If a bunch of DMV centers got shut down, it wouldn't be "Blacks are too dumb to know how to get an ID". It would have been about the burden of doing so. Having to drive possibly up to 100 miles just to get a state ID or a drivers license. Gasoline, even in Alabama, still costs. 100 miles to the DMV, 100 miles back. And then not everyone has a reliable car. This is one of the poorest regions in America. I think Republicans in Alabama wanted to make it harder for Black people in the Blackest region of Alabama to vote.

In Georgia, there was something else that went on. There were many polling places that were shut down, mostly in poorer, predominantly Black areas. For those that wanted to vote, this meant going further out of the way than normal to vote.

No, Republicans don't think Blacks are too stupid to know how to vote or get resources in order to vote. What is being done is an attempt at making voting harder and more costly. Why would anyone want to make it harder for anyone to vote? Simple. Said party knows that there is a decent size portion of the population that won't support it. And in Alabama, the GOP knows that most Blacks won't vote for the Republican Party. Instead of proving to Black Americans that the GOP is worth it, the GOP strategy in AL is to making voting more difficult.

Alabama has a traditionalistic political culture. The political culture of the states dictates that government should have a custodial role. It views the role of government as maintaining the current social order. Government participation is expected mainly among the elites. Tradition is what governs decision making.

I think the traditionalistic political culture of Alabama (and other southern states) plays a role in doing things like gerrymandering and attempting to have certain polling/DMV centers shut down. The prevailing attitude is that political participation should benefit the prevailing social order. Black people voting Democrat and challenging Republicans in Alabama is seen as a threat, at least in the eyes of the GOP in Alabama.

To understand the situation with Alabama, this video should be given a look. The video breaks it down on a geographic level.

Try to make an honest post when you respond.

Again - Republicans are not the ones saying blacks are too dumb to vote on time so voting times cannot be cut. Republicans are not the ones saying blacks are too dumb to get a voter ID so we shouldn't have voter ID. The party of Jim Crow is the group spreading their racism and degrading blacks.

So that only affects blacks??? Thank you for proving my point.

Again in hopes you don't deflect from the truth.

Not in Alabama. It's Republican-ran for the most part, and the politicians are choosing the politicians there. In Alabama's case, gerrymandering is how that works.
