And PBR used to be even lower on the scale than say keystone, hamms or schlitz. Bottom shelf garbage.
Have you ever tried "Billy Beer"? My God that stuff was awful. I tried it and figured that it was so bad that it wouldn't last on the market. It turned out that I was right. So I went and bought another six pack to keep as a collectors item of which I still have the original 6 pack intact in its original plastic retainer. That beer tasted like **** back then and isn't worth **** now. So much for my speculation.
My current favorite beer is Carlsberg Pilsner. I love their marketing slogan "Probably the best beer in the world" as opposed to Bud's "King of beers" or more lately "Queen of beers".
Seriously though I can't drink Budwieser products as I get the "Budwieser headache". About 30% of people get it due to the brewing process. Even if they gave it away I would not drink it. I really don't give a crap about the tranny issue; it's just bad beer in my opinion.

The worst was the generic at Safeway, the white can with green letters BEER. I believe that was also bud. We bought some and ended up skeet shooting with it.
I believe the re-birth of PBR started around 15 years ago in college towns like Boston and Phila. College kids going to the bars were screaming for a cheaper priced beer so canned PBR became that lower priced beer.

I have a few empty cans of Billy Beer, since they are a collectors item of sorts. I think you can get a few bucks for them on ebay. No idea what they are worth full/unopened. There were some youtubers that did videos of them drinking some unopened cans, and they described it as citrusy, orangy, and not bad. Maybe it got better with age?

I don't think that I'd be willing to try some today after all it's some 46 years old. It tasted horrible back then I can only imagine how horrible it is now? For those that are interested here's a great article about the rise and fall of Billy Beer and it's brewer. https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/...-quit-drinking

"That’s about the best summary of Billy Beer that we can find; it was so noxious that not even Billy Carter would drink it.
Falls City had survived Prohibition, but it couldn’t survive Billy Beer. The brewers quickly learned that it’s hard to make a lasting profit on a product that tastes so bad nobody wants to buy it a second time."
