We are repeating the same history that led to the downfall of the Roman empire (gas price, Mexicans)

Are you speaking of legal immigrants or illegal aliens? We have no problem with the former in reasonable numbers. The problem is the latter. Are you blurring the lines between those two groups? What does Fox (not Faux) news have to do with the above?
Rich and powerful help to fund coups abroad to seize natural resources. Destroying the nations these people come from. Their governments are puppets of the US and conditions get bad. So people flock to the US, and thus they become cheap labor as a byproduct.
In order to hide that, they pay pundits like Tucker Carlson to scaremonger about immigrants. So the finger is pointed solely at them and not those those on top.
That's in RICH IN NATURAL RESOURCES countries, yes.
But this latest wave of immigration is not from THOSE countries, is it?
Did you follow the link and read it? I'm thinking not, since the parallels are quite clear.
I read it but it takes more than an opinion piece from a biased organization to cancel out everything else I have read about the topic.
So, it took one article to form your opinion.......
It took a long time for Rome to fall and it took a long time for the British empire to fall, although it didn't bring down Britain itself. Why do you compare US to Rome and think it will go down in the way or Rome, when we are not even an empire? Rome was trying to rule an enormous area by use of military force, and finance it by expanding it further, but you can't keep doing that forever. They were over-expanded and they should have tapered it down like the Brits did, but they tried to keep it going and ran out of gas (money and fresh slaves), and their enemies ate them up. They also had civil wars, and at one point they had 20 emperors over a 75-year span, because they kept killing the old ones and putting in new ones hoping things would change.
And to be more precise, it was the Western part of the Roman Empire who fallen, the Eastern part who was later known as Byzantine Empire survived a couple of additional centuries.
You need to read up more on the fall of the Roman Empire if you dont see any resemblances between the two.
These are different times, but the same conclusion can be had. Things are in a bit of a mess, but it could be much worse. Go to some other countries and see. In many you have no rights. Any thing you do that looks suspicious, you can be jailed for questioning, and for years. Some were released just yesterday after 8 years. Travel to a few other countries, upon landing here you will kiss this ground. Think that's a joke, some have done just that after landing here. And some complain about the price of eggs, or slightly higher gas prices. In many ways, you've never had it so good. But democracy is fragile. There are many that dont want a democracy. Its not in their plan.
Trumps trying his best to emulate the dictators that he has openly said he admires. look how these countries are ruled. The leader of N. Korea he so loves. That country you cant leave, you have to escape. Thousands have died trying. He even praised Putin for invading Ukraine. See his train of thought. His last term, he threw out there about being president for life. Now he talks about wanting the president to have more powers, see where this is headed. You're living and watching something that could lead us to a bad ending. Remember the good ol' days when the parties just disagreed but things got done. Now, the radical Repubs are holding McCarthy and his job hostage, the job they gave him, remember the 15 vote counts it took for him to be the House Speaker he so wanted, with the agreement to follow their directions. Other than that, have a nice day.
