They should, but they won't.
There's not time limit set on these investigations, and the Repubs believe yelling "Fire!" long enough will convince enough folks they can smell a little smoke just long enough for them to win one more election.
The thought they're digging a hole too deep to ever climb out of never occurs to them.
Except for the smart ones, and they're all jumping off the ship before it sinks.
Johnson just lost another one this week, so his reliable majority is down to only 3 now. It's no wonder to me that he's trying to talk out of both sides of his mouth at the same time.
He has to work with the Democrats to get anything the Repubs want, but at the same time, he doesn't want the humiliation of being forced out as Speaker either.
And if the Repubs have any more incumbents bail out now and resign, the Democrats will regain their House majority before this year's election.
A Democratic House could push through all the legislation the Repubs have blocked in the past 3 years with that majority. It would be hard work, but is do-able if any more resignations are immediate.
