He doesn’t give a damn about anything other than himself. But who the hell wants to live in a country where everything is political? That’s like Maoist China. Yeah, this judge is probably a Democrat. We don’t even actually know that though. I guess his daughter is, but that doesn’t mean anything. Do you take political advise from your children? I love my young 20s daughter but eh, I don’t give her word much weight when it comes to politics.

Anyways, if Trump could prove this judge wasn’t randomly selected as the law must require and instead was handpicked based on political considerations, I would be the first to shout oh hell no. Get him off the case immediately. But if he was randomly chosen … no, you don’t get to bounce him for political reasons. We’re Americans. We have rights. Some of us chose to be Democrats. So the hell what.

In his courtroom, he is the law. Trump will abide by the gag order or face the consequences.

Trump is no longer in control. The courts will own and operate him from now until his last trial is finished, and then the prisons take over. He may as well get used to it.

That's... not how it works.

Did you sleep through your civics classes or something?

He may think he's the law...but he is not. You may think he's the law...but he's not. He is supposed to be there to interpret the law and make sure that the trial is fair and runs within the bounds of the law. He doesn't get to make up the law because it might expose some very "embarrassing" conflicts of interest.

That's exactly how it works. Trump is no longer in charge of his life. He will be required to attend his criminal trials, and he will have Wednesdays and weekends open for campaigning during the first one.

When a judge imposes a gag order, it is the law unless/until it is overturned on appeal. Should Citizen Trump decide to attack any of the court staff or their families, the judge will fine him, or possibly stick him in a cell for a week or so. Don't you recall when Trump was fined on two separate occasions by Judge Engoron for violating the gag orders he had imposed?

It's a terrible thing. Absolutely scandalous.

Tell it to Judge Merchan. He is the one who imposed the gag order, and he will be the one who interprets violations and deals with them unilaterally. In his courtroom he is quite literally the law. He can fine you, remove you, silence you, or have you incarcerated.

Sure... and when he does any of those things, he opens up avenues of appeal to toss out any and everything he does if the case is made that he acted out of bias or due to a conflict of interest.

If he wants to act in a heavy handed manner, it'll only cement the notion that he's acting in a biased manner due to his known conflict.... it'll be playing into Trump's hands.

Harassment, threats, libel and slander are not protected under the 1st Amendment. The judge in charge of a case can take action to make sure his rules are obeyed. Every attorney knows that.

If the judge sees a scenario where the safety of family members of people involved in the trial might be threatened, are you saying he doesn’t have a right to act to try to prevent that ?
