Much to do about nothing. I am involved at my kid's Scout troop.
They went co-ed at least 5 years ago. Not a big deal. Honestly, it is kind of a seperate but equal situation as they meet at different times and rarely do any outings together. Other Troops may vary ....
As for the name, it was already changed to Scouts BSA. Everyone just calls it "Scouts." I doubt another variation will do any harm.
By allowing girls into the boy scouts, you are changing the culture of the boy scouts quite a bit. Don't be misandrist! The only reason the girl scouts haven't changed their name is because misandry is much more accepted by society than misogyny. And believe me, allowing girls into the boy scouts is misandry and allowing boys into the girl scouts is misogyny.

Yes, I do. I was in the boy scouts, briefly. It should be for boys only. That's why we have two organizations. One for girls and one for boys. To allow either in one or the other is not only ridiculous but being done so out of misogyny and misandry disguised as "inclusivity". It's a dog whistle for misandrists and misogynists. Leave the children alone! Let the boys be boys with other boys, and girls be girls with other girls!

I don't understand what the group formerly known as the Boy Scouts have that the Girl Scouts don't have - that girls are making this choice...

yea. I can answer that with a LOT of confidence.
I am a guy. I am an active leader of a troop of boys. I also help found a troop for girls. I am active in both.
during the fallout from the sex abuse scandal, going back to like 2016/2017, BSA was hemorrhaging membership. Then the Morman church announced it was separating from BSA. What you may not know is that for decades (I dont know how long) part of the Mormon process for their boys was going through the Scouting program. That separation dropped hundreds of thousands off the membership roles, as membership was falling, headed into a lawsuit/bankruptcy process that everyone knew was going to be very expensive.
At the same time, families with boys in the program who had daughters had been calling for accepting girls for 20 years. MANY of these families had girls that looked at the GSUSA program and did not like what it was at all. YES it is very different.
So BSA made a decision to accept girls into Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts (renamed Scouts BSA).
What you also may not know, is that BSA runs 5 total programs. 3 of those programs, have been co-ed since they were created in the late 60's/early 70's

As for what BSA has that GSUSA doesn't I can't speak authoritatively about what GSUSA has. I can tell you that the people I know who have daughters in the BSA program, all have said they tried GSUSA and didn't like it. some said they didn't like the culture around selling GS Cookies.... some said it was an act of congress to go camping. Others said they preferred the BSA Scout Oath and Law as the prime driver.
I can tell you that Scouts BSA is very clear about its Aims and Methods and very forward about things like Duty to God and Living out the Scout Oath and Law.
to be fair, I have good friends who LOVE GSUSA. But these organizations are very very different and if you have people you will have people with different preferences and agends.
