I don't think anyone is threatened or scared, I haven't heard anyone say they were, it comes down to what people believe in, for some it's a moral issue for others it's tradition and others whatever, it's everybodies right to feel as they do and nothing here will change anyones mind except when the name calling starts, then your just reinforceing that persons feelings, for me it's tradition, I feel marriage is between a man and a woman, I'm not threatened or scard and it doesn't hurt me in any way but I'm entittled to my belielfs.

It became more than a social contract when the government began recognizing and giving benefits to married couples whether it be through taxation or other legalities

The guy who cannot drive but is on the road anyway & invariably causes an accident. People who are frightened make bad decisions [ie Bush]. Republicans in general have real problems with the world & many are so isolated & uninformed that their responses are laughable.

In 20 yrs Americans will look back and shake their heads in disbelieve [like the Salem witch trials = Republican bigots
good god. have you ever posted one comment on here that could be considered a rational thought? I know your technique, I know your agenda. you're not original. seen if before.

Sure there will stil be birde and groom in the vast amjority of marriages. Thsi makes little difference to waht peole themselves belive a marriage is and what they recognise. Civil unions would have and the same effect legally; which is all ths does. Doesn't change minds at all.

Huh??? This makes no sense. So, do you think that two gay people together are JUST sexual partners? That they're not actually dating, building a life & family together, etc.? If so, man are you completely deluded & sad.

I think there should be 2 separate things.
Civil Unions would be government recognized partnerships. Anyone can have them (2 men, 2 women, a man and a woman)
Marriage shouldn't have any official recognition and can be whatever Jesus told you it should be.

I'm hoping that as California goes, so goes the rest of the nation. People have always opposed progress and eventually they fail, it's inevitable and it makes me feel really good about the prospects of gay marriage in this country. Someday, I want my children to look back and wonder how people in this country were so stupid about this issue the same way I look back and wonder the same thing about opposition to interracial marriage. As people my age start to vote, we can eventually overcome the Religious Right that has been trying so hard to hijack this country. You guys may not like it but you're probably old anyway so you don't have to worry about it for that long, do you?

I don't see anything wrong with this. Marriage is a social contract, and is one that should not discriminate between genders (Nor should it discriminate between number of partners, but that's for another thread.).
