Should YOUR kids be taught a "politically corrected" version of Islam IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS????

I hear the far left "eliminate Christianity everywhere", but then they are OK with having a Madrassa in NYC and kids being taught that Islam in public schools!!! Not only that, they are being taught that Islam is peaceful, women have equal rights, etc. Complete FALSE from the real Islam!!

Not only the MD public schools are teaching/preaching Islam, they are tricking people into a fake version of Islam!!!

Absolutely NO religion should be taught in PUBLIC schools....if Muslims keep pushing this there will be a backlash and rightfully so.

On the other hand ...it'll be fun watching those "christians" who want THEIR religion in public places have a s-fit over having the shoe on the other foot

I would be curious to see how Christianity is presented in the texbooks for these students. Do they include all of the murder, rape and pillaging that went on during the Crusades, for example? The native genocide and violence that went along with the forced Conversion to Christianity in North and Latin America?

Or is a kinder, gentler, "dumbed down" version of Christianity presented?

How about instead of simply talking about different religions the schools focus on religions' effects on society, using Islam, Christianity, etc. as examples/case studies. Sort of like a social science class. I guess I'm thinking that since religion is such a big part of America and the world, it would make sense to educate people about it.

I think if learning a little about a specific religion fits with the curriculum in place, then it should be taught. For instance, Siddhartha is a novel that is easier to understand with some core knowledge of buddhism.

However, an incorrect account of the religion is absolutely silly. If the religion entails X, Y, and Z - do not teach that it entails A, B, and C. Many students will take that information to heart, vice researching the topic further to learn more.

How can anyone tell anything from that article? You can't trust Fox News not to report something completely false and present it as real news. Same with Yahoo news. Neither of them makes any genuine efforts to be factual.

If it's true, that some history textbook used in these schools has been modified to show the religion as something it isn't, and the company has been pressured by some Muslim group, that is wrong, of course. The book should present the least biased definitions of organized religions that it can. That's obvious.

But also, when one does even a quick Google search, this is shown to be nothing new, and an overwhelming majority of sites with articles complaining about definitions of Islam in textbooks are clearly right-wing.

For those who are saying that religion should not be taught in public schools, I'm not sure you're understanding the issue entirely. In context in a history lesson, kids have to be told what jihad means, or why Martin Luther wrote his 95 theses. It's not teaching kids which religion they should practice but how religion has affected history (a poster above me said something similar).

A good education includes the facts of all religion but not the faith. A clear discussion of the origin, development and effect of a religion is appropriate but proselytizing the faith is not appropriate for public school. Let the magic be taught in church and the reality in school.
