I think it should be monitored much better, limited, time ending, and it should offer more incentives for people to find the means to support themselves instead of choosing the easier route of living off the system.

I believe it needs to be severely restricted. 2 years max with a 10 year period between being able to draw from it, so lets say someone on welfare gets a job just for a month long enough to quit and go back on welfare, the 10 year period between would keep the vampire welfare people from taking advantage of the system.

It needs to be heavily reformed. There are way too many abusers of the system.
Of course I wouldn't mind if it was gone completely.

a limit of 5 years sounds like a fantastic idea! gives people a chance to really get on their feet without letting people ride on the govornments coatails all their lives.

We have Job Seekers Allowance for people actively seeking employment which will be stopped if you don't, Income Support for families or single parents with young children and Tax Credits to help people on low incomes.
Our minimum wage is £5.52 per hour, which is very low.

It should be similar to social security. You must obtain 40 work credits to get social security benefits (which amounts to 10 years of employment).

You shouldn't be able to apply for welfare until you have at least 16 work credits and your benefits should only last 1 year for each 16 work credits.

Exclamation How??

I know how it's existed, it's because it is a touchy subject, and it interests people minds to discuss how to deal with the people and corporations who are on the welfare rolls in this nation. and, what is P & OC? don't abbeviate what you're trying to say, spell it out, because I don't know what you're speaking of. this thread is not political by nature, it is what is happening now, and it is real, so, you don't have to pinch yourself to wake up.

YES. And Obama's success clearly calls for the end of affirmative action programs too.
