Distressing news. We'll need to tie up Iraq pretty quick to respond.

Afghanistan has been drawing a fresh influx of jihadi fighters from Turkey, Central Asia, Chechnya and the Middle East, one more sign that al-Qaida is regrouping on what is fast becoming the most active front of the war on terror groups.

Good. Since more troops will probably be going there, they will meet the same fate as AQ in Iraq.

I actually think with the russian experience in Afganistan that it will be more of a problem than Iraq;especailly once we pullout and the insurgent can concentrate on afganistan with Iraq another safe haven. The territory there is much like that at the pakistan border with Iraq.

Yet more evidence what a disastrous diversion the War in Iraq was.

There is nothing good about that. That's pretty shocking to hear.

The troop surge is only one component which led to Al-Qaeda's ouster in Iraq. They lost popular support from the people, and we had a surprising stroke of luck when Sunni militants initiated their ceasefire. Chalk it up to American ingenuity and Iraqi resilience.

We better pray that the humanitarian work we're doing in Afghanistan makes the alternative (the Taliban and AQ) look like paths with no future.
