The following is an exerpt from an article that I have provided a link to. I wonder what the ratio of the current Republican Party are hunters as compared to the current Democratic Party. Just something I have been pondering after I read about Sarah Palin's aerial hunting practices. How can one claim to be an observant religious person if there is no compassion, heart or soul? It's all a facade.

“One thing I have frequently observed in children is that when they have got possession of any poor creature, they are apt to use it ill; they often torment and treat very roughly young birds, butterflies and other such poor animals which fall into their hands – and that with a seeming kind of pleasure. This, I think, should be watched in them, and if they incline to any such cruelty, they should be taught the contrary usage, for the custom of tormenting and killing beats will, by degrees, harden their minds even towards men.....” John Locke, 1705.

The wise words of a philosopher almost 300 years ago. He’s right. According to a 1997 study, people who abused animals were five times more likely to have a record of violent crime. The link between cruelty to animals and violence towards humans has become common knowledge in the USA. The source of information in this article is the USA but the conclusions drawn and warnings sent out are equally applicable to South Africa and elsewhere in the world. They are warnings worth heeding.

This logic could be applied to anyone who eats meat, yes? At the least, meat-eaters are complicit in the crimes against animals.

~Mike (wonders, as a meat-eater, is he trustworthy?)

Yes I can. I'm cruel to animals every time I take a bite into their meat.

if you think hunting is cruel to animals you should go to a slaughter house before you eat your next mcmeal. or chickens or fish. if you're a vegitarian, have you ever stopped to think about that poor living plant you tore out of the ground just to satisfy your hunger? moose meat stew at the white house, how cool is that

It's taken out of context. Hunting an animal is not the same as setting fire to a cat repeatedly over several weeks for fun.

Very true. Shooting from Helicopters is not hunting though, a dead give away to someone who thinks WHATEVER they do is OK, it must be-after all it was THEM that did it.

I general, no you can not trust folks who are cruel to animals.AND you better keep an eye on those who think little fido is their baby as well.

No. Anyone who displays contempt for life and find pleasure in inflicting pain on any living creature is not to be trusted.

So much so that for example in the UK the RSPCA ( Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is often consulted by the police about household animal abuses as there has been a proven link between people who abuse animal and abuse their children or their spouses.

It is a barometer to look out for. Sadism of any kind is something we should all be concerned about . Animal abuse is a symptom of a much more serious problem.
The RSPCA here in the UK is responsible for alerting the authorities to many other serious crimes and I do not find it surprising in the least ( in the UK , they many powers to enter people's homes to seize animals suspected of abuse) .

Regarding hunting, I used to hunt and find nothing wrong with it whatsoever but I have seen hunters who actually enjoy the moment of death and like to see they quarry suffer. To me that is seriously sick.
One can enjoy hunting and still have respect for the animal.
As for hunting from a helicopter or a hide that is not hunting either. Neither is Fox "hunting".

Never trust a man who think inflicting pain/torturing even on animals is acceptable . Mind you being kind to animals does not necessarily mean a blameless soul either ( the SS loved their dogs).

You are not a rational person. People that hunt for their food are not being cruel to animals. They are hunting for food. How many animals have you consumed in your lifetime? Does that make you a cruel person?
