First though, pat yourself on the back. You're smart, rational, reasonable, and exhibit the best American qualities.

But

1) Affirmative action is wrong in this day and age. It's reverse discrimination. If you want to target persons from poverty fine, just don't base it on race.

2) Illegal immigration is wrong. It's against our country's laws. It hurts the pay rate of poor Americans If you respect the rule of law, and admonish the Bush Administration for breaking the rule of law. You need to be consistent despite what sympathies you have for illegals. Knee jerk accusations of racism on those who try and stop it is also wrong.

But only 2 wrong out of scores of issues isn't too shabby.

I can agree with all that, with the reservation that it's not inconsistent to advocate liberalization of immigration laws.

I am liberal and I actually agree with you on both issues...

democrats have pandered to illegal immigration out of human rights... and I don't agree with that premis
but there is a flip side.. neo con corporate leaders don't want to abolish illegal immigration either, because its cheap labour
so both groups point the fingers at each other in blame... and nothing gets done.

Affirmative action was needed in its time and place durring the civil rights era. We all know and should understand that help should be based upon poverty and NOT race...

I might just have to agree with you on affirmative action, as much as I hate to say it.

The other one...not so much.

I agree with you on both counts. Affirmative action should never have been racially based, it should always have been poverty based. You should never treat anyone differently because of their race.

Illegal immigration is just plain WRONG. Our Immigration rules need to be fixed so that well-intentioned people can come here and work. LEGAL IMMIGRATION IS GREAT -- we are a nation of immigrants -- just fix the system so that honest people can get in more easily instead of having to wait up to a year.

p.s. On immigration, I think they should loosen up a little bit because right now NO ONE can get in unless they marry a US citizen or are very RICH or possibly if they are lucky enough to get sponsored by a US company. So we are discouraging good, honest people while allowing a gaping hole to let in ILLEGAL immigrants who come in with NO restrictions. No MEDICAL CHECK! NO CRIMINAL CHECK!

I'm liberal, will vote for Obama, was going to vote for Hillary, have always voted Democrat.

I think Affirmative action was good intention that turned bad. It's hard to empower people to get along and I think that's where it failed.

As far as immigration, I haven't made up my mind, and frankly I think I'm somewhere in the middle. I can see bad from it, but I think a lot of what's against immigration comes pretty much from watered down racism.

I'm not going to even go with the name calling of liberals etc.

Affirmative action is important.

The day that the state begins to convict those corporations that hire immigrants. I'll be right there with you. Otherwise, your pretty much jacking with the powerless.
