LaVena Johnson was 19 years old, serving in Iraq as a private in the
Army, when she was raped, murdered, and her body was burned--by someone
from her own military base. Despite overwhelming physical evidence,
the Army called it a suicide and closed the case.[1]
For three years, LaVena's parents have been fighting for answers. At
almost every turn, they've been met with closed doors or lies. But
together we can help achieve justice for LaVena and other families who
have suffered similar tragedies.[2]
Will you join me in standing with the Johnsons and calling on Henry
Waxman, Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, to investigate the
Army's cover-up of Lavena's death? And ask your friends and family to
do the same?
I’m sorry to hear about this case. I support the effort of the investigation. Isn’t it a shame that our government and military continue to do this “cover up”? Telling the truth once or telling lies over and over just doesn’t make sense. I remember Pat Tillman and the five different stories that came down on that death. They still have not gotten a full truthful version of what occurred and who is responsible. This has become a government of lies!
Would that include false information and lies to the parents, spouse, kids or other loved ones? If a crime has been committed is there an investigation by the authorities? Maybe handling matters “within the unit” are improper and illegal? If I remember correctly when I was in the service, the higher authorities wanted and demanded to know of such incidents as crimes committed by the units.
I think today there’s too much covering of everyone’s “a*s*s” both in government and corporations. Oh that’s right I just remembered that this administration did away with any protection of whistle blowers who might come forward with information about crimes within the military, government, and corporations.
regarding the LaVena Johnson story -- do you have any idea what the other sides to this story might be? Or where you might go to find them. Or were you just being rhetorical?

I agreed with the Tillman 'cover up" .
Why tell his parents that their son was killed in "friendly" fire which happens .
Why subject them to that pain .
Bad enough he was killed but now why "cause" more pain.

This is why always best that civilian police/detectives get involved and they do in the states. Since this took place in Iraq military think CID takes over and that is not good at all.
Military over-seas does not handle internal problems same as civilian police force them to do state side.
Waxman should be voted out as 3 yrs after the fact it is going to be hard to get to bottom of it and I find the USELESS bunch in Congress who aren't beside themselves with this as deplorable.
The Army prefers to handle such matters "within the unit".
Yes they do which is why over-seas commands are loaded with problems such as abuse of locals ,etc vs state side commands that civilian police get involved .
The military can NOT investigate its own.
They never could they never will. It is set up to sweep things under the rug.

Are you in the army? If so, can you provide more insight on your comment?
Thanks!
