Something that my boyfriend said really made me think. If this is happening in 2008...what will be happening in 2028? The fact that we have the technology and the ability to perform surgeries and use hormones to morph a person from one sex into another doesn't mean that it should be done. And even if it is done, a transformed woman into a man should not be given the option to keep the same plumbing always for this "man" to give birth to a child. Its just so wrong.
I know what you are saying, but I don't think western civilization as we know it will exist in 2028. If it does though, and things remain on present course, and the economy recovers and our consumerist way of life continues, I see test tube babies not far in the future. I also see chip implants on people that contain all their money and all their information, but also track them so the government can keep complete control.
However, I think a real oil crisis, a food shortage, and a world war within the next decade will change the entire course of history.
So if a 12 yr old girl and a 58yr old man want to give a child a loving home, that's ok too because they "love" each other?
The "man" and the woman in the 20/20 piece were NOT thinking about the best interest of a child or effects that their decision would have on this child. They are doing what THEY WANT to do.
Just because someone CAN have a child doesn't mean that they SHOULD have a child. If the "man" in the piece wanted so desperately to be a man, then she/he should have made a full transition and not be a hybrid of the two. "He" could not have gotten pregnant without going outside of the couple to become impregnated. This was a very deliberate, calculated action. Why not have the "wife" be the carrier?
This thinking you need to apply to heterosexuals. Consider what world you will create when you decide to police ALL other heterosexuals who have casual sex. What's up with hetero kids these days wanting a "f*ck buddy"? That is beyond my comprehension-- I was born and raised in another time and place far away from these kids. To my sensibilities sex is never casual. Keywords being my sensibilities. I disagree strongly with how these young girls disrespect themselves, and how these young boys make a sport out of sexuality, but my vote means I refuse to participate. It also means I'll be speaking my peace when my nephew seeks advice. The end.
Just because you were given freedom and choices doesn't permit you to be irresponsible about them. That's on you. That's on me. That's on them. Just because someone isn't doing it your way doesn't make them wrong, doesn't make you wrong. I didn't see the interview, I'm not qualified to judge this person, and the right of judgment is reserved exclusively to her maker.
The fabric of American Society slipping away? Do you mean the fabric of the past that included slavery, denying women the vote, Vietnam, Indian boarding schools, Internment camps for Japanese Americans and lynching blacks? I'm ready for some new fabric.
LOL vine- AMEN to that!! I'd love to see the constitution fully realized some day. Too many people are threatened by diversity and unfortunately they've yet to see it as their own insecurity in who they are as people. If only they could just be happy in their own shoes and stand tall on their own merit instead of trying to stand on the backs of others to feel 'tall'. That's a lie, and deep down a part of them knows it. They've got some demons inside to argue with, and we outside their head wind up taking hits when they're punching at ghosts. Growing pains? I just don't know.
Do try to remember that our fellow americans do have the right instincts when a building is leveled or katrina hits. When manipulated by unscrupulous leaders it's anyones guess how they'll direct their energy.
After watching bits and pieces of 20/20 last night where Barbara Walters interviewed the "man" who gave birth to a child. I could not help but think about how this is just so very much against God's plan. Each "little" thing like this that we tolerate or try to "normalize" is pulling society further into the abyss.

The biggest negative in all of this is the fact that we have enough mentally and emotionally disturbed children who are the product of dysfunctional heterosexual unions. I can only imagine the horror, confusion and sufferage that children of two fathers, or two mothers or who are the product of the circumstances surrounding such bizarre births/unions will be forced to endure. By virtue of having no voice or choice they are forced to become victims of current and future bizarre travesties such as this one.
What about the poor children who are victims and pawns in the scheme of all of this bizarre confusion?
Right; I meant that it's the first "secular" commandment after the religious commandments about graven images and other Gods, and commandments unenforceable under modern law such as honoring fathers and mothers.
I guess you've never heard of Slavery of Blacks in the United States?

If society had stayed with 'god's plan" we'd still live in caves.
