No we don't need his vote. That is a myth. For instance the last two years there was never a vote where Lieberman made the difference, not one.

As far as getting to 60. You could likely not count on his vote anyway in foreign policy matters. There's always a few GOPers like Snowe and Collins that cross the aisle. Still unlikely now that is vote would make a difference.

What the blow hards on this thread don't realize is that Lieberman keeping his job is a win for non responsive government. A win for the Elites, for the good old boy network. There is and was a grassroots effort of voters to get rid of this guy. Thousands of small people gave money, and volunteered to help the Democratic party win. They didn't like the job he was doing and worked hard for their party.

Now that they've won, the clubby Senators decide to ignore the same people that helped get them elected. That's a sad fact.

Here's the Bipartisanship the right wingers say we need more of.

G Greenwald at Salon

"Where is the evidence of the supposed partisan wrangling that we hear so much about? Just examine the question dispassionately. Look at every major Bush initiative, every controversial signature Bush policy over the last eight years, and one finds virtually nothing but massive bipartisan support for them -- the Patriot Act (original enactment and its renewal); the invasion of Afghanistan; the attack on, and ongoing occupation of, Iraq; the Military Commissions Act (authorizing enhanced interrogation techniques, abolishing habeas corpus, and immunizing war criminals); expansions of warrantless eavesdropping and telecom immunity; declaring part of Iran's government to be "terrorists"; our one-sided policy toward Israel; the $700 billion bailout; The No Child Left Behind Act, "bankruptcy reform," and on and on.

Most of those were all enacted with virtually unanimous GOP support and substantial, sometimes overwhelming, Democratic support: the very definition of "bipartisanship." That's just a fact".

Great point! These people should stop blaming Bush for everything wrong with the world when they supported "every major Bush initiative, every controversial signature Bush policy over the last eight years."

Great advise, let the crooks off the hook because you're too smart to take advice from someone smarter than yourself...! Both patrties need to be cleansed, but the OP was asking about the Democrats...

Trolls..? You're the only troll I see around here, all the rest of us want our country to succeed.

It's a fact if all you want to do is look at the oversimplification of final vote counts. A much clearer picture would be revealed by looking at the process undergone by bills in making their way from introduction to being voted upon. There is precious little bipartisanship in that picture. Next to none at all emanating from the Republican side...
