But what if they say "We promise to be a new kind of jihadist"?

That is because the right wingers only talk about respecting life. War and guns... that is all they can think about and act accordingly.

They also live in a world where there is "evil" (those who oppose), and "good" (them), dependent on information provided by the media and the government. Bush couldn't have been happier when Hamas was elected democratically (2004-2005), taking over the "evil" PLO.

Just wait until Iraq comes back to bite in the rear (again). It is going to happen.

I think it's GREAT that Obama wants to talk to Hamas....to hear their side of things, consider their views, give them a few moments of his time. Hopefully, if all goes well, later on he'll be able to meet with the leaders of MS-13.....or the KKK....or the Crips. I'm sure ALL these guys have a lot on their minds, and all they want is for someone to 'hear them out'.

Jurgensmeyer is a notable professor on the topic. He goes and interviews terrorists and your absolutely right, he says he never feels endangered with people wearing hoods and carrying AK-47s surrounding him because in the mind of the helpless and the hopeless all they want is to be heard out. And they seem him as a messenger. We can hear them speak or we can hear the sound of KABBOOOOM which means too late. And I'm a realist, perhaps the whole middle-east may be flattened like a parking lot one day, but if we can save one or two or perhaps we can delay this mass destruction, it's still better than nothing.
