Because sometimes she's a man? Because "steward" connotes the old Pullman days and in the 70s they thought that was derogatory?

I dont know, why?

Default coffee tea or me?

"Flight Attendant" more acurately describes what they do and it's gender neutral for the purposes of payroll and benefits parity.
Also it keeps the lecherous drunks from making crude sexist remarks about the appearance of the women, as the male flight attendants change the dynamic of the microcosm.

More importantly, why do you seem to take issue w/them being called flight attendants? Does that offend you in some way? And if so, why exactly?

Why don't they call a nurse something different nowadays too. Nurse sounds feminine and yet nursing is no longer confined to just women.
