Because it's a stupid communist idea that is completely detached from economic reality?

Because corporatism has taken over American system and values. And we like a failed system.

Because no country can afford to give everything to everyone for free.

You can either have:

(1) Universal Healthcare and a weak military (like Europe)
(2) Mixed Private/Government Healthcare like we have now and a strong military

I prefer number 2.

I would not support any politican that supports universal healthcare.

The countries that have UHC have proved it is a failure.

UHC is coming to the US. Too many people are in healthcare arrangements that are completely tied to their employers, and as job losses mount, the political pressure to fill those gaps will rise and rise.

Universal health care would bankrupt the United States because we have over 300 million people. It easy to have universal health care in a country like Sweden for example which only has 10 million people.

Three Reasons Why Single-Payer Health Care Has Become Possible | Health and Wellness | AlterNet

Quote:
The financial cost of creating a single payer-system would be a fraction of what we spend each year merely on the occupation of Iraq, which Congress and the president have committed to ending.
Quote:
Compared to the cost of wasteful programs at the Pentagon or bailouts for bankers, or even the new economic stimulus bill, single payer is a bargain, doesn't kill anyone, saves and improves lives, and even stimulates the economy better than most of the measures being used toward that end. The movement for single payer has organized a lot more than numbers; it has also marshaled persuasive arguments.

In the US, only Politicians get UHC. Us plebes have to pay through the arse to be insured.

Our healthcare system, although presently the best in the world, is becoming so costly through fraud, abuse, and rates that are skyrocketing.

Universal healthcare, while admirable has huge drawbacks. I hear there are people in countries that have UHC that are on waiting lists for months, if not years. And in a large number of the countries that have UHC (with the exception of smaller countries like Finland or Sweden), most of the people also carry private insurance because of the lengthy waiting period for government subsidized healthcare.
