Hehehehe.... well, I wouldn't say that... I don't mind that people think differently than me but when they start wanting to force their ideology on me... they got another thing coming...

How very tollerant of you Kev.

Where would some be if not for the Republicans?

Here's a start:

Quote:
Forgotten was the fact that it was the Republicans who started the HBCU’s and the NAACP to stop the Democrats from lynching blacks. Into the dust bin of history was tossed the fact that it was the Republicans led by Republican Senator Everett Dirksen who pushed to pass the civil rights laws in 1957, 1960, 1964, 1965 and 1968.

And it was Senator Lyndon Johnson (D-Tex) who blocked civil rights legislation during the Eisenhower years, delaying further action until after Democrats ruled the roost.

who says we don't get along?

My best friend is a republican...or a republican used to be my best friend (we haven't spoken since we got our voter registration cards) it just depends on how you look at it.

I say we just eliminate every political party. Sure we'll end up with all sorts of candidates who fall all over the spectrum of ideals, but only the ones who represent the true majority of American ideals would get elected. No more electoral college and a true popular vote......

In all seriousness I think most Dems and Pubs get along just fine. It's really only the extreme far to the left and the extreme far right folks who can't seem to find any common ground.

The big guys are just trying to separate us so we think the other side is the enemy instead of the leader.

If we did this, we'd end up like iraqi's., with absolutely no sense of direction. democrats like myself can't get along because we have different opinions and ideals from each other. while republicans are more radical, we democrats are more, well, liberal in thinking and policy making. we're more understanding of what the american people's needs are. one of these major accomplishments was affirmative action, without this, mr. obama may never have been elected:

"If we did this, we'd end up like iraqi's., with absolutely no sense of direction."

I wasn't being serious which is why I started my second paragraph off by saying in all seriousness.

"we're more understanding of what the american people's needs are."

This is your opinion. If it were true then we would never have Republican or Indpendent leaders elected....

On an individual level, of course reps and dems get along. In fact, there are many liberal dems on this very board that I both admire and look forward to reading their posts. We may not always agree, but what is the point of always agreeing? The USA is not an homogenous society -- and thank god for that! Also, it should be noted that there are some absolutely brilliant rep politicians out there, and some absolutely brilliant dem politicians out there. We should be taking from the cream of the collective crop, not just a fraction of the cream and a whole lot of detrius from half the crop.
But, if we did that the gop and dnc would have less power. And that is what it is all about. It is no longer about serving our (yes, all of ours) country to the best of their ability....it is all about keeping high numbers in order to control the house and senate. Maybe there will be a little political tit for tat in order to appease the folks back home. But that is it. And we fall for the red v blue crap time and time again. Because after all, if we the people are so damn busy rooting out gotcha! moments for the other side we really are not looking too deeply into what is actually happening, are we? We will get that guy and ignore what our guy is up to. The only way to change that would be for all of us to stand up and with one voice demand accountability.

Default Leading our nation

Frankly speaking, I've never seen an independent who had the stuff it takes to become elected as president. people such as ron paul, ralph nader, etc., I've always viewed as crackpots.
I think the republican party should be disbanded or dissolved, they hardly ever do anything in the best interests of our nation, pretty much all the repubs. are for is big business, and the poor become poorer under their leadership.
