I was a little upset today when I went in to the office where I get my taxes done. They were very busy doing taxes and I overheard several people asking how much they were getting back. One of them was recieving a refund even though they paid no taxes. They asked me if I was ready to do taxes and I said "Believe me, I am not in a hurry especially when I will owe taxes" I am waiting until April 15th to file and send in my check.

The point is that I met face to face with someone who was getting a refund without even paying a cent in taxes. I thought why don't I just donate money to this stranger and cut out the IRS. That is what the IRS is doing with my tax dollars??? Isn't that just like socialism??

Give your money to the government and let them redistribute it to folks that are far less productive than you just to make everything fair?? That just doesn't sound right. What incentive do I have to excel if all my money is just going to go to some unproductive stranger who can just sit back and collect my money??

After looking at the chart of rising national debt as % of GDP on the Great Depression thread, I said the SAME THING - redistribution of wealth since 1981 under 3 different GOP Presidents to the RICH! Get your head on straight! The middle class is DYING! That is an absolute FACT!

With the unemployment rate recently, but higher now, at around 4.5% I don't think there's all that many people around enjoying a life of doing nothing.

Welcome to the real world! Was this the first time you did taxes, or learnt about it?

Now may be the time to go buy and read "Wealth of Nations" and see if that too is about socialism.

Section 8 - Powers of Congress
The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;

"Uniform" has been reinterpreted... it is now different tax brackets for different income... to me uniform means "one" rate.... but I guess people in power decide whatever they want... it just so happens that their methods nets them more cash.... hmmm... no funny business there...

The military industrial complex this country has built is pretty socialist but people don't seem to give a **** about that.

As a liberal, I am fully in favor of cutting every government expenditure by 50%. I say we should start with the military - based on any reasonable corporate view of efficiency it is poorly run and ineffective. Nukes lying around doing nothing, soldiers in the Middle East unable to manufacture Democracy from nothing, etc. They're falling grossly short of their targets for the year, and in this economy we just can't keep them around.

Oh, right, some things are worth paying for. Like the military, and highways, and airports, and farms (???). But apparently not public libraries or health care? You say socialism, I say hypocrisy!
