Since times are tough, we've considered scrounging together the last of our savings to head somewhere warm -- like Hawaii.

Unfortunately, other people have the same idea -- so much so that Hawaii is considering a new $100,000 program to fly homeless people back to the mainland.

How can you legally do this?
Maybe they can "bribe" them, by paying for a ticket and sending them to wherever, but that's I think about as far as it would go.

I'm still surprised Hawaii is still a US state. There's still a section of their population that wants to become an independent nation again.

It's a very tiny sliver of the population, about 5% if that.

We all know that Hawaii was illegally taken over by the US in 1893, but the fact remains that it will never be independent again. Some kanaka maoli (Native Hawaiians) are hoping to be given the same rights as Native Americans on the Mainland, but even that seems remote.
